I have a 97 civic d16y8 Im not hearing the vtec crack nor feel it hit. I have read on here to clean out the vtec solenoid did this weekend and nothing. If you have some info or had problems in the past anything will help also the car is stock this is also my first honda ever owned so dont know to much about them either. THANKS!

You can feel the vtec on your D16y8? I could hardly feel mine when I had a sohc as well.

I don't think its really that noticeable on that engine. What can you rev to?

I'm not to sure I think I've gotten to 6500 but haven't pushed it more than that. I'll see after work today.

does the rev limiter kick in before 7200? Do you have a CEL?

If you answer no to both these questions your VTEC is activating. SOHC VTEC is not that pronounced.

If you don't have any codes, it's working. If you really want to hear it buy a short ram or cold air intake. It activates at 5500 rpm.

If no cel's I would check if your oil is low. Vtec should work with no cel's. That is the only other reason it would not work. U can test the solenoid by hookin 12v to the green and yellow wire on the solenoid and hear it click. Then u know the solenoid is not bad. It's a y8 you will not feel it kick in and hardly hear it either inside the car. This is no k series or b Series vtec

None. Don't waste your money, buy a nitrous kit and have it tuned if you want cheap power or turbo it which is more complicated.
