d16y8 help please
long story short ..........my gf's friends car had a knocking so i check the oil. there was none on the dip stick......(thats no good) u dont hear it at idle but when the rpms get above 1500 u hear and the higher u go the louder it gets. im thinking maybe its rod bearings. so i drop the pan, girdle and rod bearings. 1 and 4 are toast but the journals for the most part are ok. so i changed the bearings, oil, and oil filter and i cleaned out the crankcase area before i put it back together. i start it up and let it idle for about 15 mins while cleaning up. i drive it around the block and all is good vtec works now and everything (i was wondering why it wasnt working for the past couple weeks??? oh! theres no oil) any ways i get her and drive it with her and the noise comes back all of a sudden.??? wtf! i really dont think its bearing again already so her dad said maybe its the pin bushings. well ive never took apart a honda engine before but does it sound like that could be the problem? is it a floating pin design or is it pressed in and if so what moves? the piston on the pin or the pin in the rod bushing. oh i did find brass colored flakes in the pan if that helps. any help would be great.

Hey boss, I had some similar problems with 2 hondas. A friend of mine said it could be the lifters or oil pump. I have had 2 engines blown due to oil pumps going out. One a 95 japanese spec edition EX engine that I had dropped in. They forgot to hook the oil pump up correctly and about a week into driving the engine blew and the knock happened. 2nd was a H23 95 prelude. That was caused due to an overheating issue that cracked the block. After the initial crack, it ran for another 3 months progressivly getting louder over time before it got like engine was grinding almost and it gave out. Knock that wasn't there at idle would get louder the higher RPM. Then on a drive the oil pump was clogged due to engine fragments clogging it from the original crack and once again. Blown engine. That sound is never good. I dunno if the car overheated before, if your engine oil is kinda milk shake like now? If so? Then you've blown the gasket or cracked the block. Those are pretty bad situations, I could be wrong of course, but I have had it happen twice. I would have it checked asap for sure.
