d16y8 engine, can i tell if the valve seals and piston rings are bad by visual inspection
ok my car was burning oil alot, and so i did a compression test and came out bad,
so i took off the head and removed the pistons
now is there any way i can chk by visual inspection if the seals or rings are bad,
and do the rod bearings wear out normally, should i just replace them with new ones, is it requires to buy and install a new head gasket, thx

Well a lot of this depends on how many miles are on it. But, you can measure the rings with a feeler guage and see if they're within oe limits. Rod bearings wear because they're a piece of the motor, not fast though. I had a 230k z6 and it was fine. I would change them unless your rebuilding or have plastigauged it and found it needs it or had a knock. I dont think you can see valve seals unless the head is diss-asembled. Usually if you burn a lot of oil its rings. One way to know if it was valves seals is if it smoked until it was warm then stopped.

Next time before you pull a whole engine apart you can check to see if your rings are bad by putting a little bit of oil in each cylinder and then re doing the compression test. If the compression goes up its the rings. If the compression stays the same its most likely your valves. Blown headgaskets can also casue low compression readings.
But to answer your q about the bearings, yes you should always replace your bearings with oem honda color coded bearings anytime you rebuild an engine. You don't neccessarily have to but your already to that point, naw' mean?

any yes you need a new head gasket and head resurface. Never reuse an old headgasket unless you like doing stuff twice.
