D16Y8 in EG Help
Couple questions about my swap.....
I have a 93' Civic DX, I got a D16Y7 with D16Y8 head. I've researched all about my swap and got it all down as far as just the motor. As in keeping my OBD1 Alternator, and Injectors/clips....
1st question, How can I run VTEC. I can get ahold of the Y8 VTEC dizzy, but don't want to spend the money on a jumper harness. Should I just get the Y8 Dizzy and rewire the connector to the 2-Connector OBD1? or I read somewhere I can switch out some internals into my old OBD1 Dizzy? I know I can't just get a D16Z6 Dizzy because of the different bolt pattern.
2nd question I'm also converting my car to 5-Speed but I still have the P06 ECU (SOHC Automatic)(Non-VTEC). I've heard I can run my manual with it still? I've already spent alot of money on my swap and don't want to have to buy another ECU. Can I just buy a Chip Kit for my ECU? I have a friend who can tune it or should I just buy a P28? Someone told me I might have issues running that with my Y8 though. I don't want to convert to OBD2 or use a jumper harness for a P2P because I know I will get a CEL because OBD1 engine harnesses don't have a Knock Sensor.
3rd question, if I don't get the above figured out can I run my Y8 head with my OBD1 Non-Vtec Dizzy (I know the bolt pattern is the same) and just not have VTEC. And like I said before can I run my motor (w/o VTEC) with my P06 ECU? I'm not to concerned about running VTEC but I want to attempt to do it while my motor is out.
I have the 4-wire Heated O2 Sensor if that matters in ECU selection.
I'd really appreciate any input, thanks.

1. JUst use your dizzy, it'll work fine. If for some odd reason it doesn't just swap the internals. You'll need to wire the plugs from the VTEC solenoid and VTEC pressure switch to the ECU (check my sig if you need some help).
2. You won't need the knock sensor as the OBD1 ECU (either P06 or P28 doesn't use it)
3. The dizzy (having a dizzy from a Non VTEC engine) has nothing to do with allowing VTEC to operate or not in that sense.
4. The P06 and P28 use a single 4 wire O2

One more question. Sorry I'm clueless about running VTEC, never had a honda with it yet. Will buying a chip kit like this be just as good as buying a P28 or equal to. I have some soldering skills with motherboards and things like that. I have a friend who can tune on chrome if I needed it tuned.

Don't use the P2P - way to much work and it'll just give you headaches. Just have your P06 converted to VTEC and chipped. It'll be the easiest and most straightforward setup.

Re: D16Y8 in EG Help
I had a d16y8 in my eg...
1. Use your stock wiring harness...it's not hard to add wires. I clipped the pressure switch wires, grounded the black wire to a bolt on the solenoid and ran the power to the correct ecu pin. I also clipped the solenoid wire and again ran that to the correct ecu pin.
2. Distributor...a d15b7/8 distributor will bolt right up the y8 head, no modifications needed.
3. Ecu...a stock p28 will suffice but it will run a little funky (i.e. slight power loss around 2500-3500) I eventually went had my p28 socketed and ran a basemap from xenocron.
