Default D16Y8 Distributor Compatibility

Honda Tech'ers,

I'm trying to link my D16Y8 engine with the proper distributor needed to be compatible with VTEC, but the internet is not helping.....nor did the local Honda dealership in my area. Some lists have the TD-80U 'dizzy' as being only used for the HX/DX/LX...but other lists showing it compatible with VTEC enabled setups.

I had my buddy look on the distributor itself, but he couldn't find the model #. Is the TD-80U going to work, or should I be looking for a different distributor model #? Thanks in advance.

The sohc non-vtec dizzy's have a different bolt pattern than the sohc vtec dizzy's and will not bolt up, however you can rig them (visegrips) if need be.

*Great* I just ordered a TD-80U dizzy on the cheap off of Ebay. Looks like it's only for SOHC 1.6's, non-vtec (I have the 97 EX - VTEC). Every model # list on ebay/internet seems to contradict itself...showing it will/will not work. I guess the D16Y8 engine's distributor doesn't have a model #, it's just simply known as a 'D16Y8 distributor'.

I'll see if the one I get (TD-80U) will line up....but I'm starting to have my doubts. What did you mean by rigging it up with vice grips? Any other info from others would be appreciated. Thanks guys.
