i know this might be a nooby thing to ask but i wanna do a swap in my 4-door ek and it came with a y8 already in it. I might have to get a new head i was told and was wondering if i should just replace the head with another y8 or go with a z6. Any suggestion?

p.s. i wanna save gas but at the same time pull quick.

You won't "pull quick" using either one.

Get the Y8 as it's plug and play.

z6 is the better motor I think...but as grumble said the Y8 is plug n play...and the z6 is not that much better than the Y8...so all the other crap you would have to do to get the z6 going is really not worth it!

well something thats decently torquey in a single cam. i was thinking about going b16a2 but the mpgs aren't all smiley about so i'm trying to stay single cam. but thanks bro

There is no such thing as torque in a D-series engine. Not in many B-series either.

I don't think the difference in MPG in a SOHC vtec and a B16 is that much. Don't think it would hurt you that bad...

You could get a F22 or F23 single cam from an Accord, that's the only way to get something "decently torquey in a single cam". It's nowhere near plug and play though. You'd be looking at at least $1000 for parts along with the cost of the motor, but the F23A1 from the Accord is a good bang for the buck.

Horsepower is a function of air flow. With more air, you have to flow more fuel to keep a safe air fuel ratio. If you increase air flow to make more power, you need more fuel. With a stock motor, you can pull some fuel out though and gain power and mpgs since the stock tune is pretty rich to stay safe at all times, but then you're dropping hundreds and hundreds into electronics. If you decrease air flow, you gain mpgs at the cost of power. However, you can get horsepower and mpgs with an efficient engine. The B18C1 and B16A2/B16A3 are good engines. Throw a LS 5th gear in the transmission for either, lighten the car, do a couple aerodynamic alterations, and you should do great on gas.

Maybe if anything you'd end up spending less at the pump. When I had a single cam I always had to rev the thing out just to get on the interstate. The B series engines are a much better match for the Civic...
