ecu for a d15b for a 96-98 ( if thats the car u have in your avatar) a d15. it will probably have extra plugs for egr and stuff but you dont need that. your harness will work axles will all work the same.

yes tranny and mounts will fit they're all the same. as long as it's a 5spd were talking about. auto d15b's had cvt transmissions and y8 autos are not cvt and the ecu would not work on a regular y8 auto transmission.

to run the 3 stage vtec your gonna need the ecu .. the one you have will work but its not going to run the mid stage of vtec that engages around 3k. your engine harness will work fine. this motor is not going to net you any more power if that's your plan.ALso i dought its going to give much better gas mileage.

Might I ask why you're replacing your y8?
Like others have said you'll need the ECU and while it's not necessary, the wiring harness.

you can use a P28 with a P2J basemap (I believe that is the JDM D15B ECU code). That ECU may be somewhat hard to find. If we are talking about the car in your avatar you will need a step down harness to run the P28

I don't see any real difference in output (127hp vs. 128hp/107tq Vs. 106tq) between the 2 engines looking only at the numbers. Don't know how 3-stage V-TEC will make your ride a sleeper.

Yep. Just like I thought. Some kid who wants to be slow with 3 stages of vtec instead of just one.
I'm only here to try to prevent you from doing this so in 2 years you aren't thinking "Wtf, why didn't I just go with a b-series?"

best advice is to forget about the 3 stage vtec, and just boost your y8

Either way, making a big effort to swap from a d16y8 to a d15b would be the most tragic mistake any honda owner had made. If you're going to go through the trouble of a swap at least put a cheap b18b in it. Or go faster with a cheap reliable low boost turbo build.

I can tell you're not going to do any of your own research. Swap a B series in or turbo. NA is a waste of money on a D unless you have it to burn. If you insist then check out Bisimoto.

Re: d16y8 to d15b 3 stage vtec swap help
A mild turbo build you could pretty easily get 30mpg still.
Are you thinking you're going to get 15mpg with a turbo? That's just not true unless you're pushing like 350whp.
If you don't have the money for a b-series, and don't want to do a turbo, you need to find a new car if you want more speed. Oh wait, that would cost money too.
You don't want to spend money, in a hobby that is probably one of the most expensive hobbies there are.
