Default D16Y8 Cam shaft Q's.....

If you guys were to choose a Camshaft for the D16Y8(SOHC VTEC) what aftermarket company would benefit the most HP and TQ? Also it must pass smog....I have a Cam Gear dialed in at +2 degrees advanced. I just want oppinions on what company would be prefered.

I think crower is the only one that makes a cam for that engine? ... I'm probably wrong ...

do some searching, I'm sure you'll find something on that big thing called the internet.

I know skunk2 makes 3 different stages for the y8.

I read in a performance book that the best camshaft for a sohc is the stock one, but who knows. Are you NA or FI. If you are NA I wouldn't waste the money on a camshaft

why you could make some decent power if you a hardcore SOHC fan. those ZEX cams aren't to expensive either.

I'm thinking of doing a N/A D61Y8 and try to push at least 150HP or close to it. Later on I'll replace the valves and valve springs, pistons, and etc....

If not, I'll take the easy route of using Nitrous. So it's like a debatable thing to either get a Camshaft or not.

Talk to Builthatch, he's putting about 160 whp NA on his y8. Theres another dude on d-series that put out like 154 whp on a mustang dyno and his motor is FAR from being built. I'd go with the zex 105300, a lot of people have been satisfied with that cam and it puts out good numbers, but you gotta spend some quality time on the dyno if you want the most gains out of that cam.

102.3HP@7000RPM (K&N filter, DC4-1, Denso iriduim plugs, Nology sparkplug wire, Hyper ground wires, Greddy cat back) But now I have a AEM Short ram so I don't know how much different it is, and I still have to reinstall my cam gear.

102HP for a EX is kind of sad dont you think? That's why I want to get cams to see if I could get anymore inprovement.

get rid of those nology wires, you can kill your coil with those. run stock.

don't know about iridiums either.

150 is a pretty far shot on a sohc without FI. with amount of work and money you spend to get that much out out a sohc n/a you might as well go b series.

low budget 130-135 is reachable.

How so? Any reasons why theNology wires are not good? I basically got those with a deal. It was PWR radiator, Oil cooler, Nology wire, and DC 4-1 for $350. Used though....

well I know somebody who used those on his DSMs he burned out his coils.

they draw more current do to the less resistance and stock coil is not really responding well to it. It might cause it burn itself out, or it will burn out your cap and rotor faster.

Is there any way around it? If not, then I would have to purchase NGK plug wires....

And I know I would have to reprogram the ECU eventually. I got the feeling that someones gonna tell me to get a Hondata. But how much is Hondata S200 with basemap for my car?(estimate)

Just get uberdata, you will need to convert to obdI and you can pretty much burn the programs yourself and it should be cheaper then hondata. but I would wait until you at least get a cam in there.
