D16Y8, best choice for increasing performance? Turbo or swap?
#2
I got a y8.. and honestly its enough for me stock. that's not to say I wouldn't mind seeing its full potential.
take it for a ride.. and if you do a search, you will see there are many people who turbo these engines. they are solid!
edit: if you do swap - there is TONS of info in the FAQ

no swaps yet. Why swap when you can turbo your motor for cheap? research how to on H-T that way when **** starts to break (its inevitable) you can fix it yourself. Or if you want a lot of information of what NOT TO DO, homemadeturbo.com takes the cake. They are helpful dont get me wrong, but some of them dudes will turbo their car with no intercooler, and like piece of $hit charge pipes which end up exploding their motors. id say turbo your motor wtih a modest boost, have fun with it (since it is relatively cheap to do) then save up for a B series later on!

Boost it IMO. You can put together a fairly nice kit for relatively cheap, but make sure you dont skip out on engine management. If you want a no hassle kit, I would suggest the Edelbrock kit. It is more expensive, but it comes with EVERYTHING!!!! Just install, and your good to go!!!

ya definitely turbo it. One of my friends has the D16Y5 Built for boost. Not only are the D16YX solid engines, their internals are cheap so you can build them and boost even more without risking blowing anything. Forget swaps SOHC all the way! If you want to see what ur D-series is capable of turbod16.com has tons of Dyno's and parts lists from many people who have already successfully boosted their D-series.

Next time search first...there have been a couple threads about this exact topic this week and they all end the same way. Boost is the most economical dollar per hp you can get with a D
