D16Y8 Bad #3. No compression.
Hey H-T,
Just bought a 99 EX with a D16Y8 to be a commuter and ran great when I bought it.....Drove it on the freeway and in town and ran fine so felt confident to commute from Oregon to California and while on the freeway it threw an CEL. When I managed to get to a parts store, they checked the code which was a P303 error or miss on #3. Not having any choice but to drive it to where I was headed I drove it for another 200 miles with the misfire.
After an exhaustive troubleshooting, it was determined that there is no compression on #3. I changed out the injector, plug, wires cap and rotor and is still MF. So ran a compression check on it and there is no compression, like none!!!! Could this be the rings or a non-closing valve?
I took the valve cover off and the valve lash seemed even? Could it just not be closing?
I appreciate all the help I can get as Im pretty much stuck here without my tools or a place to work on the car.

It is probably a cracked or burned valve. You would need to take the head off and replace the valve. Having a machine shop grind all the valves would be recommended for best life.
Sometimes there is a hole in the piston, which is much more serious. A leakdown test would show, or of course removing the head.
If it is only a valve, you can drive home without much further damage by disconnecting the #3 injector and running on 3 cylinders. Avoid freeways, use lower gears and don't try to go up mountains very fast. The holed piston would have a lot of smoke and oil coming out the tailpipe and you should not drive at all.

Re: D16Y8 Bad #3. No compression.
Thanks.
Not smoking. Thinking its a valve.
Need to remove the head but at this time dont have time/space/tools to do this as Im working remotely and dont have any of this. Othewise, snap. Just looking for advice......Been driving it up hills as I live 1500 ft above where I work:-( But pulls the hills and corneres just fine once reved.
