D16Y8 9000 rev limit needs...
Hey, i was just wondering, what all is needed to make a D16Y8 engine rev up higher than stock... i heard 9000 is the max... the only things i can think of are, cam, cam gears, valve springs, pistons & rings, crank... anything else im missing or something there that isnt needed?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Why? That motor, even with massive modifications would have a hard time amking power up there. Its do-able but how much $$$$ you got?

swaping to a b16 would be so much more expensive than to just modify my D16 so to make more use of my money, thats what im gonna do... now... back to the original question...
i am getting a port and polished Y8 head for 150 bucks, good deal i think... but while its off im gonna put in everything possible and then swap the head and timing belt(since it has to be done sometime soon anyhow) at the same time...
what i want to know is will i be able to rev higher and will it benefit me to do so... if i completely modify the head and then put it on... also a list of things i could do to it would help, not sure if i know them all...

Re: (uranazo)
Valves, valvesprings, retainers, etc. You need to completely redo your valvetrain. I'll check around and see if I can find the company that made the upgraded valvetrain stuff.
EDIT: If you don't have something like a turbo or upgraded cam to make power up at 9k there isnt any reason to rev that high anyways.

To rev that high you'll be stretching the longevity of the D16Y8 with its 1.5x to 1 R/S ratio. But, if you really want to, then you need a cam that can make power up there, new rods, bearings, sleeves, valve springs that won't float or bind, good pistons, and probably see if you can make the roller rockers from the VX D15 work in your engine, because they will allow for a cam profile that makes nice power at 9000 rpm.
Honestly, for that much money and effort, just turbo the sucker and have just as much HP and much more TORQUE! You'll need engine management for either one so just keep the block goodies from above, get hondata, RC injectors, turbo manifold, a T3/T4, and the various piping and you can have a nice turbo setup.

You need knowledge!!, I suggest you sit around for a few more months and read anything and everything on honda-tech that regards what you wanna do. Then go from there.

The d-series head packages on http://www.exospeed.com make the head ready for 9k rpm. Don't know why you would want to rev that high, but it is possible.

you need alot more than that like new valves and good quality parts but you need to tune it like hard core and use the best lubes on the market like royal purple but you really won't make much power that high

yes, a higher R/S ratio is better... 1.75:1 is considered "ideal" though they use even higher ratios in F1...
you could use the VX rods, i suppose, but you must also take into account that the VX rods have different sized rod bearing journals and the wrist pin location in the piston is ~3mm higher than in a standard d-series motor... and since you would need forged pistons and rods to spin that high, good luck finding someone who makes pistons and rods for a VX motor!
