D16y7 with y8 mani swap bummed me out!
ok.. I have a 98 dx 2dr with the d16y7 w/headers, short ram intake, and pace setter exhaust(bad choice). Anyways, I swapped manifolds for the Ex y8 and haven't noticed **** for gains. I have noticed a major loss in low-end torque and maybe a little mid-range. My y8 mani was pulling a **** ton more than this a friends lx i once could beat is now whooping me bad. I thought exhaust was screwing me up so I got an upgrade from 2.25'' to 2.50'', no cat or resonator.... nothing just a loud *** muffler... today I went and took my distributor off and it had some wear, so I figured time to replace plugs, stock wires, dist. cap, rotor, and fuel filter... If this doesn't solve my problem, I'm going to check out my timing belt. I don't know, everything is hooked up right, maybe I'm just a fukmook and am doing something wetawded.... oh yeah btw I currently have HP Racing headers, 2.50" exhaust(straight pipe), short ram intake, and y8 mani... I am hoping to one day turbo or all motor but until then if I cannot figure out whats up, I'm going to swap back. Also I bought a y7 head off of ebay that had a hillbilly p&p... they scraped tha valve stems... ugh... but they will be replaced. What can I do to this head to help me out? 5angle valve job? milling? longer valve stems and softer springs?? ohh what the hell: What kind of luck are you all having building F/I or all motor out of these D16's...? ok thats enough for now, I'll report tomorrow on the installation of the new stuff....peas
