5th gear may be too high for 35 mph, especially if any acceleration is needed. Does the CEL work? You need to set the ignition timing to the red mark on the crank pulley using a timing light.

Did you actually test for spark at all four plugs?
If only one plug does not get spark, then the problem is the plug, wire, cap or rotor. You'll need to sort it out from there.

It's getting spark from the distrubitor? But not at the plug?
I am a little confused by your posts.
IF, that is the case, either the wire is bad, or the plug is.
Also, what kind of plugs/wires/cap/rotor?

Try a new plug. Make sure it is gaped correctly.
If this still doesn't you have another issue. Just to be sure, you are absoluty positive you are getting spark at the dizzy?

Re: d16y7 running rough
Try doing a compression test for giggles... I purchased a car recently that didn't run at first... and turns out it was the dizzy, but it ran like crap... And replaced small items and it got better and better, but ignition timing was still way off (full clockwise tilt). I also had a really weak spark in Cyl 3. My buddy ran a compression test, Cyl 1 and 3 were both next to nothing for compression. Pulled the head off and found burnt exhaust valves.
I never noticed the compression/running on only 3 Cyl problem because of the ignition timing issue. The ignition timing was way off because it was trying to compensate for Cyl 3. Cyl 3 both exhaust valves were missing a chunk and burnt to a crisp. Cyl 1 one exhaust valve cracked and caused the leak.
Your problem sounds exactly what I went through. I also smelled gas coming out the exhaust and that was because fuel went straight through three exhaust valve holes.
You don't have to tear the head off just yet, I highly recommend doing the compression test to see what your compression in each cylinder is at. If you have a big drop in compression, you may have the same problem as I did.
