Default d16y7 Misfire - out of ideas.

just picked up a 98 cx hatchback all stock (d16y7) with 105,000 miles on it. seems to be a very well maintained vehicle - valve train looks extremely clean, no leaks from anything. had a MIL and miss fire when i bought it and figured it was a simple ignition problem. i did notice that the fuel filter, primary o2, plugs, wires, coil where changed almost as if somebody was throwing parts at the car to fix it. I hooked up a scanner and 5 codes popped up - cyl. miss #1-4 and the random cyl. misfire. the miss is really only noticeable at idle and it isnt a dead miss. its fairly random. i had a bad feeling about the dizzy so i just bought a whole new complete after trying a cap, rotor, and ignitor. then put NGK plugs and wires in as well. the NGK's i pulled out all looked uniform and a greyish white color as they should be. the MIL has now turned it self off but the miss is still there. any ideas?

ohh yeah - i did check fuel pressure wich was about 34 psi. i also checked the fuel for contamination and alcohol% as well wich checked out to be ok. still a bit of winter blend gas but nothing that should cause this miss.

and parts and still the same, hopefully somebody comes with a useful idea.

trying a new set.

Possible crank sensor problems?
Could be dirt on the crank sensor signal wheel/gear.

have you checked timing has timing belt been replaces 100,000 is about the time it should be replaced

if the timing is too far off but not completely off, it will fire too early or to late causing random missfires and rough idle...

while you have the cover off you can check the crank sensor

well i did pop the Timing belt cover off and it seems that the belt has been changed, i couldn't get the belt to stop with the brand name to face up to see what it says, but i do know that it has yellow ink on it - didn't think OEM Honda belts had yellow on them. the belt seemed to be in good shape and tension. As for the CKP - i just put a brand new complete dizzy on it so that should be good.

timing could be off a little when putting the belt back on. some people are slow like that.

Pretty sure if you look you will find a crank sensor on the tbelt side of the engine, look for a three wire plug beside the tbelt cover towards back side of engine.Wire should go down beside tbelt cover then inside to crank sensor.
