D16Y7 Looking for 30 - 40 whp NA
Hello, I am a new member to the site. I have had my car for about 2 years now and have been doing things to it all along. I have just recently got into auto crossing my daily driver and am looking for the best add-ons to shave some time off of my runs. Thank you in advance for any imput!
Currently:
Iceman Cold Air Intake
5-Zigen Cat Back Exhaust
Tokico Illumina 5 way adjustable shocks
Tokico Springs
Suspension Techniques Front and Rear Sway
Front and Rear Upper Strut Tower Bars
17" x 7" ADR RS Limited Concept Pro Wheels (they ARE light for 17's - 18lbs and 18lbs tires)
PowerSlot Rotors w/ Hawk HPS pads
Short Shifter w/ Integra LS Shift ****
Custom Civic Front Badge
Carbon Fiber Front Lip (Type-R style)
CTR Headlights
Black Chrome Altezza style taillights.
I will buy some 15 X 7's for next season (9.92 lbs per wheel w/ 22.6lb tires).
What to buy next:
As you can see it's pretty much a Virgin under the hood. And I am open to all ideas however I would like to remain N/A and am against NOS. The clutch has started to become tired and I am currently considering a Centerforce Stage 2 Clutch w/ Clutch Master 9lb fly wheel. Also, I am looking at AEM accessory pulleys (NO UNDERDRIVE I saw the photos). A DC Header w/ after market Cat. Also, a cam although I have no idea which to buy and where to get it. Over all I would like to get an additional 30-40 hp to the wheels. Please give me any advice on what I am looking to buy or any additional items to purchase. Budget is approx. $4000. Open to all engine set-ups NA.
Thanks again!!!

Re: D16Y7 Looking for 30 - 40 whp NA (machiz24)
well I believe it's up to you if u choose to stay with the sohc motor.. now if u do..
best bet.. is of course upgrade to either a full d16y8 swap..(install SRR FD either 4.7/4.9) drop in a nice cam tlak to wil @exospeed.com.. AS well as some valvetrain upgrades...but with 4k u can easily afford a b18c(GSR) and still have money left over and you'll go from 100hp/98lbs to 146/120ish..and u'll still have the reliability of a OEM motor good luck oh yeah forget all that Pulley nonsense it really isn't worth it IMO
but there are so many choices to go with .. I would say study up ..see what other guys are running and maybe get a test drive in a simliar car as your with the setup
good luck

Re: D16Y7 Looking for 30 - 40 whp NA (IM ALL BOB)
What you do depends on what class you want to race in. With your current setup, it looks like you are racing STS. If you want to stay in that category, you can get just get bolt on parts for your engine (intake, header, exhaust) which will make around 10 extra hp combined. If you wish to bump yourself up to Street Prepared, you can add parts beyond basic bolt ons to your engine, swap in a D16Y8 from a Civic EX (127 hp), or swap in a B16A2 from a Civic Si (160 hp) because that category lets you swap parts between model years and trim levels. If you wish to bump yourself up to Street Modified, you can get a B18C1 from an Integra GSR (170 hp) or a B18C5 from an Integra Type R (200 hp). All of the motor swaps mentioned will cost $4000 or less except for the B18C5, which would cost $5000.

look up "mini me" swap if you want to keep your motor. well - the block.
if not, look into a gsr or if you want to save like a grand more, ITR's go for around 4500 to 5k now. 98 spec jdm itr comes with the 4.7FD already and once wired up and tuned, you should be looking very pretty.
my friend said this: "if you're going to do it, might as well do it all the way." you may want more power later on.

$4000 to build a sohc motor..... Get a gsr swap instead and try and find a lsd tranny. You will probably be able to do it for less than $4000. Smooth even powerband and plenty of torque. If you don't want to go that big just do a ls swap you can do for around 1500-2000. That will give you like 140hp and your car is already wired for non vtec. Both the gsr and the ls are about neck and neck until you hit third gear and then the gsr comes into its own. For autox definitely the swap be it an ls, gsr or ls vtec. All of which you can do for under 4000.
Good Luck
