d16y7 into 94 cx Help Please
hey guys i just swapped a d16y7 into my 94 CX hatch. i have a few questions. are the distributors interchangeable on my d15 and the new d16? second i had to use the d15 intake manifold beacuse the new engine had a newer IM on it and it wouldnt work with my wiring harness. i completed the swap with the original wiring harness and original ECU. the car starts but the idle is horrible and its not running correctly. also my speedometer is acting as a tachometer. do i need an ecu from a 96 Dx for this to work correctly?

i checked all of the ones i could find, i could be missing one though. also there are 3 plugs on the IM that are all the same. im pretty sure i have them all in the correct location, but is there any way i can make sure?

Those 3 plugs you speak of are for Intake air temperature sensor(IAT), idle air control valve (IACV), and the purge solinoid. The wire colors going to each are as follows:
IAT - green/white and red/rellow
IACV - blue/yellow and yellow black
Purge solinoid - red and yellow/black
If you plug the IACV plug into the IAT it will kill the IAT

As boostedcivicsir mentioned check for crossed MAP and TPS, since i just happen to have a diagram right here, the wire colors for MAP and TPS are as follows:
MAP - green/white, yellow/red, white
TPS - yellow/white, red/blue, green/white
MAP - green/white, yellow/red, white
TPS - yellow/white, red/blue, green/white

Check the speed sensor conector on the trans. Mine had a broken wire and it would touch some times and work and then I would hit a bump or shift and it wouldnt work.

okay, so the d15 intake manifold DID NOT work because of the coolant hole that goes from the head to the intake manifold. i put a y8 manifold on. the IACV is a 3 wire instead of a 2 wire, the car runs like **** so i did a bit of research and i think i should pick up a 96 DX wiring harness and ECU, what do you guys think?

Re: (bsmith628)
If there is just a extra coolant hole on the manifold plug it. There should be a way to make it work. On the other hand the 3 wire will never work that I know of and I would think I would be a pain to swap in a 96 harness if its even possible. Just figure out a way to block the extra coolant line. I have a d16z6 motor and trans in my 96 and I think I had to block a coolant line with a big bolt. Just my two cents.

its two holes that are supposed to line up, but on the d15 IM the hole is moved up about a quarter of and inch, and much smaller then the hole on the head, so coolant leaks out. i read alot about the 3 wire iacv but i dont really understand. i think my best bet is to leave the d16 with the y8 IM on it and just figure out how to get the 3 wire iacv to work

Re: (bsmith628)
Or find a d16z6 manifold as I had one with no problems on my y7 before I swapped in the d16z6. Id try that because im pretty sure the 3 wire iac wont work because your ecu only has 2 wires. good luck.
