Default D16Y7 Header and a few questions

I've got a 1998 civic cx hatch, D16Y7 engine with the ridiculous exhaust manifold and cat combo. I've got a hairline crack in the manifold and have no wish to pay $600 for a new one. so now I'm thinking 4-2-1 or 4-1 header. my plan is to get the least expensive RELIABLE header, and bolt it up with no cat. as for the second O2 sensor, i am planning to do the spark plug non fouler trick, and if needed, get a simulator. this should allow me to have no cel, and pass odb2 emission checks right? all they do at my local emission testing facility is plug the odb2 connector in, and ten seconds later hand me a sheet of paper saying i passed. they don't physically check anything.

so if you please:

1) i assume no cel = no problem, right?
2) in this case, it should all just bolt up right? not that an EX D16Y8 will be the wrong size.
3) i can keep my A/C right?

then my plan is one day to swap intake manifold for the Y8 one, and apexi ws2 cat back.

is this a good plan for a little bit of gain with little cost, and still RELIABLE? this is my one and only daily driver.

thank you very much in advance!

sounds like a good idea, but uhhh, if you plan on swapping or something in the future... save your cash. honda extended the warranty on the y7 header/cat combo to 150k miles. they will replace your **** with a brand new one for free. well, actually I dunno about 98's or whatnot. my car is a 97 and I just took it to honda and they were like "oh, it's covered, come back around 1PM and we'll have it fixed free of charge." saved me some cash

thank you.

i would rather not put a new identical manifold on. i would like to use this crack as my excuse to spend $$$ on a header.

many people have said the $50 ebay no names are junk, but are they at least ok? does anyone have one and is happy with theirs? otherwise. is a $150 obx racing sports 4-2-1 good enough? or must i spend $200+ on a dc or other brand.

also stainless steel vs. ceramic. suggestions?

thanks!

It also makes your car much louder, cause your eliminating stock header and will have no cat... thats like a test pipe and aftermarket header. When i did mine, before i got a real exhaust and highflow cat, it was annoyingly loud.

my whole exhaust is egay and imo its decent for the money. it is nearly identical to an apexi N1 exhaust believe it or not its a bit quiter. you cant go wrong, its cheap, SS, tig welded. even my local exhaust shop was like yeah this is some good metal and good tig welds. for the money i doubt you will disappointed. though it is a d-series so dont expect to gain much performance if any. because no matter what header you get for a d-series the benefits will range between 1-2hp gain lol. good luck with your decision.

oh and if your going to swap a y8IM........save yourself a headache and just swap in a whole Y8 motor or z6, you will be much happier you did i swapped a Y8IM and its still not perfect.

looks like theres good enough responses here and on d-series about ebay headers. i'll just get a cheap one then, and if it does have problems, i can always put my original setup back on until i can buy a good one.

thanks everyone!
