D16Y7 engine swap help please.
i have a 1999 Honda civic which had a d16y7 in it when I got it. engine blew so I'm looking to buy another engine. I found an engine on ebay stating the engine is a "ZC" says it is compatible with my car but my question is, would it be plug and play. will it run off my y7 ecu and wiring?

If you install an engine D series (eg: Z6,Y8, D15B) with vtec system, its not gonna work... Basically any D15/D16 non-vtec will run fine.... But to keep good Hp/tq get a D16 one...

from what understand the y7 and the zc are both non-vtec, so my ecu is for the y7 so its not vtec. but as long as the zc I'm looking at is a non vtec it will work with my current ecu?

Re: D16Y7 engine swap help please.
:Scared: There are both SOHC and DOHC ZC engines. The non-VTEC SOHC ZC is similar to the D16A6 ('91–'96) and D16Y4 ('96–2000) engine, but with more aggressive cam timing. The SOHC VTEC ZC is similar to the D16Z6 ('91–'96). The DOHC ZC is similar to the D16A1, D16A3, D16A8, D16A9 and D16Z5 engines.
So Witch one you have ??? you can use your gearbox and everything else without a problem... the only issues you will have is the Vtec ain't gonna work....

untrue. vtec zc will want a 2 wire iacv, he has a 3 currently. if he swaps vtec, he'll need to add a knock sensor as the ecu will want it as well. OP- if you believe those mileage claims, i have a motor in my garage with only 30k miles.

Why do you want a ZC? Like the other mentioned, just get a a D16Y7 and make your life easy.. You should be able get a new (Used) one depending on your local market for 300-500.

Definitely Vtec ones need lots of work to do than just install it... so he cant use his current intake manifold, the Y7 one, Plug and play on the ZC head... too bad...

I'm curious how you know the engine is "blown", and exactly how it's "blown". If it's something as simple as a head gasket replacement, why are you even considering a new engine? Good chance you can get out a lot cheaper by fixing, rather than replacing with an unknown engine.
