D16y7 dizzy blown...again
A couple weeks ago, the tdc/ckp/cyp sensor in my dizzy split open and caused my car to die. Couldnt start it. FP worked, turned over etc. No spark from the plugs. Fast forward a couple weeks. I replaced the dizzy with a used one from a store nearby, replaced spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Ran fine until today, bogged down really hard while I was driving and died. Again, I checked the dizzy and the sensor split open AGAIN. I am springing for a new 300$ replacement but I dont want the new one to crack open on me. Is it possible that the dizzy is getting too hot and causing the plastic housing to split open?
My car is a 96 civic DX coupe. 5spd. Only mod so far is an EX intake manifold and CAI. The new plugs are NGK iridium with NGK wires.
The parts in the dizzy are too hot to touch, but I assume that is normal since it is bolted directly to the head.
An idea I thought of was to put thermal Grease on the metal base of the sensor where it contacts the dizzy housing, to try and improve heat dissipation?
