swap in a sohc vtec and boost

if an n/a build suits you, a b18c or b16a is good to start from. dont think of me as biased, i just think that the b-series platform will be better all around

if you're absolutely set on a boost build, with an easy to find motor, then the d16z6, d16y8, or jdm d15b is good. the advantage of the d-series boosted, is that once something breaks, parts are easily attainable and not to mention much more affordable.

you can also swap on a vtec head onto that single cam, called a "mini-me." boost it, and you're set also. i do recommend you send it out for the machine work too

either way, my mind would be this:
-n/a build: b16a, b18c
-turbo build: d16z6, d16y8, d15b, d16y7/y8 mini-me

good luck!

I'm in the same exact situation as you... I have a 99 Civic CX with a piece of shiet non-vtec d16y7 but I'm happy with how it is as long as it can take me from point A to point B. Gets me 52mpg and that I'm cool with. However just like you I feel the urge to go faster and MUST find a solution to my problem. Currently I have 21k on my engine, I dont want to waste it and swap right away. So I decided I would boost it and now I'm saving up for a turbo kit.
HOPE YOU FIND THE BEST SOLUTION FOR YOUR PROBLEM BROTHA!

you can bolt a Y8 intake manifold onto your Y7 motor and then boost it. i would suggest going with a greddy or apexi kit since it sounds like this will be your first turbo honda. also i dont know what your goals are. if you will be happy running 14s or if you are trying to hit 12s. sometimes it seems like everyone will give advice as to what they personally would do, but everyone has different situations in which they should focus their build around. good luck

APEXi kit is what I want since I like to have the same brand parts on my car but would the d16y7 stock engine internals be good enough at lets say 8 psi of boost?

I appreciate everyone for their help, but i want to change all the internals and i want the car to atleast run 13s or less, so then wouldn't it be easier to go with a swap or still stick wit the D16. I also want to get it bored and sleeved and stuff, so still stay wit the D16 or swap? Thanks every1,im at Nj.

You wanna runs thirteens you could do it with the d16 but its a lot more work.....Get a LS motor and boost it you don't have to worry about vtec control anda knock sensor. A turbo D will get you into the 14's pretty easily. Your y7 will hold 10psi of boost no problem as long as you have it tuned well. Untuned and 6psi could be dangerous..l. Its all in the fuel management...

either through a y8 head on your y7 with a skunk 2 mani or a y8 mani. and a ex trans with a turbo you could easily hit low 14s high 13s . or ls swap since u got a dx and boost that run low 13s highs off that if its done right. all depends on time n money good Luck!!

So build another D series motor(you can get a block for under 300), and drop in a Y8 tranny.

ur y7 will hold 12, i run 12 all day greddy kit, so the turbo is the size of hella jdm dick

real small

hahah jk buddie

but the turbo kit is small, go custom no power, slowness

Tune Via Hondata My advice, do it right the 1st time

Y7 Mine Me VTEC
Just a EX Tranny and a Skunk2 or elbrock SOHC Manifold and ITR TB and a Vtec head z6 or y8 and ur all set, go with obd 1 when u do a ecu swap, so much easyer

Swap in a LS motor b18b and then boost it, you'll enjoy it more.
I have a 2000 SI and want to boost the B16a, dohc's get more bang from the turbo kit. But on the other hand I have seen single cam d series turbo hatches run high 12s. So anything is possible.
