D16Y5 into DX couple, have questions.
So before I get the typical you should have searched crap, I have.
Here's the scenario. I've got a 96' DX coupe that spun a rod bearing. Now the motor that was in it, was a Y7 with a Y8 head, so she's all wired up for VTEC already. I was going to do fully built with my y7, but I'm starting a new job and need transportation ASAP. I bought a Y5 longblock off craigslist. $300 and I got to hear it running and all that beforehand. Now, I want to be lazy and just drop the entire longblock in for now. Bolt up my Y8 Intake manifold, Dizzy, Y8 header, etc. I have the Y7 engine harness modified for VTEC so I do not need to worry about the 5-wire o2.
My main question is.. can I use the Y5 head with a P2P (Y8) ECU?? I found an answer on Yahoo questions but didn't know how creditable that is. At this point I don't care if it will run like **** with the P2P, can I safely and reliably drive the car on this ECU? I would probably plan on getting the P2N ECU eventually. I want to keep the Y8 head off for now so I can throw it on my built motor. (Got Eagle rods, just need pistons, z6 crank and new engine accessories and tap the pan, etc. :D)
Like I said I just need the car running ASAP. It'll be interesting to see how an HX motor with a DX tranny will do, hoping for sick gas mileage but I know I'll need the correct ECU.
If anybody has a 5-speed 96-98 P2N let me know.

I guess for all intensive purposes, yes it will run.
Check out this thread, It covers alot about the D16Y5 vs. D16Y8 etc.
