Default d16y5 or d16y8

I posted a while back bout my tranny screwing up while I was here at school 12 hours from home. I am somehow getting my car back home to my friends to perform one of two things.

d16y5 (HX vtec-e) and just do an EX tranny swap not sure how much $$$ but cheap

or

For 700 dollars do a full EX swap (engine, tranny, wires, ecu, ect)

Basically just asking for performance wise, this swap is going in a 98 HX
I know I will be gaining 10 horsepower with the full ex swap compared to the hx but is 10 horsepower worth a couple 100 dollars??????

BTW both engines have 100### miles

Thanks guys

Well, considering you would probably spend a couple hundred dollars in mods trying to make up that 10 hp, I would say it's worth it, but others may disagree. I hear an HX with an EX tranny is a big diff from HX tranny.

For 700 bucks I'd say do the whole swap...

Think of all the people who get an exhaust/intake/header for that 10 hp or so. The EX tranny will help in acceleration, but will not be as quick as a full EX swap. Plus you'll get a VTEC head and better intake manifold.

the ex tranny is geared alot better than the hx (too long of gears), i might as well go for the whole swap and save for some boost or bottle feed it. I can always put the hx on a stand and build it up on those rainy days

do the full y8 swap. the y5 isn't gonna get you very far. Although you may want to look into spade's d series thread where he talks about a certain feature of the y5 head that could be taken advantage of.
