Default D16Y18 in a 00 Si???

I'm just wondering if anybody has ever heard of this engine in an Si (being stock that is). I am looking at a private sale 00 Si and i got the guy to bring it to Honda to get checked out and Honda said the engine in it was the D16...I'm new to any engine with vtec in it and have been checking out engines and what they can do. and i can't seem to find any record of a D16 in a 2000 Si. Only in the EX. am i dealing with a swapped engine here?? or was the d16 ever offered on the Si stock?

any help would be great
thanks

The 99-00 Si Civics only came with a B16a2 motor.

99 and 00 si's were only offered with a b16a2 so yes you are dealing with a swapped motor. the d16y8 comes from a 96-00 ex and is also vtec but being only single cam it is not nearly as good as the b16. Unless the car is a hell of a deal i wouldnt buy it, buy a real si with the right motor or get an ex with the d16 in it from the factory so you know that you wont have any problems.

In Canada the '99-00 Civic Si had a D16Y8. In the US, the '99-00 Civic Si had a B16A2.

US Si = Canadian SiR (B16)
US Ex = Canadian Si (D16)

Correct, if it is a candian Si then it came from the factory with the D16Y8.

sweeet
thanks a lot man. and yes it is quite cheaper and immaculate inside. i figure ill get a b16 for the next car or later in this one. It already has a performance exhaust but can anyone recommend anything else that could get me anywhere from 10-40hp??

I have essentially the same car with the same engine (US 96 Ex) and and sticking with the D16 in there for now until I can afford to swap another (B16, B18, K20) in there like you. I would suggest going turbo if you want to get real power out of the D16 as bolt ons will do a little but not much. I have an intake so far and am just about to order an exhaust (my current one has a hole in it). If you cant or dont want to go turbo I would suggest and intake and then some headers perhaps since you already have an exhaust. With the I/H/E combo then you might see like a 10hp gain overall but I dont know for sure.
