D16a6 Head -> D16y8/D16z6 Block -> D16a6 Tranny Cant they all fit together?

Im trying to piece together a nice build up and dont feel competent enough to build a block and it seems like people are only building d16y8's and d16z6 blocks

Ive already built my d16a6 head and am wonderring it it will bolt up to one of those blocks no problem and still aloow to to use the stock crx d16a6 tranny and stock crx motor mounts

Thanks

Is this an EF? D components are all interchangable. Just Like B components. Just remember ones obd0, ones obd1, and the last is obd2. And the EF tranny is cable and 92 up is hydro.

Yes its all going into an 88 Crx Si

So I can buy a built d16y8 block, mate it absolutely no problem to my d16a6 head and mount my stock crx si tranny to the d16y8 block using the stock crx si motor mounts?

If this is possible Im going to be a happy fucking man

Why would you want to put a a6 on a y8 block? It can be done...now if your trying to just get your car to run, OKAY....but 108hp?? =o( https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif a6 https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif

It will bolt up fine, only thing is that y8 is obd2 and a6 is obd1, also the Y8 comes with a Knock sensor on the block. might want to wire that up buddy. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

yea i would just do somthin like a y8 or z6 block with a y8 or z6 head.... with stock crx tranny... no sence usin that a6 head that doesn't have near the flow of the y8 or z6

First off, the a6 from the 88-91 si is obd-0. The z6 is obd-1. Second,he already said that the a6 head he has is already built meaning it is not stock.

To the original poster yes what you want to do is fine everything will bolt up. Just change over the crx motor mounts to the y8 block. Do you have a built y8 block ready to go yet?

Re: D16a6 Head -> D16y8/D16z6 Block -> D16a6 Tranny Cant they all fit together? (Traction)

I can't see why it wouldn't work. It's a little backward from the way most people do it though.

But what happened to the A6 block? You should have been able to have that short block reman'd.

$395.00 + shipping

That's just a stock rebuild though.

its no problem to build this engine, I think it will be a great working engine

Re: D16a6 Head -> D16y8/D16z6 Block -> D16a6 Tranny Cant they all fit together? (devi1man)

Well I personally thought I was going to build the block of my A^ myself, but I got a deal of this built A6 head in pieces and I put it together, and its built to shit, everything is bulletproof.

But I cant find a D16a6 built block pre done for shit from anyone. People are only building the other D series

But ya d16y8/d16y7,d16z6, d16a6 are all interchangeable?

Just use my crx mounts on the other block and it drops right in like stock?

What if I wanted to buy a timing belt.... it would still be the same...?

Also, anything special on compression or clearances I should be worried about?

Thanks

Re: D16a6 Head -> D16y8/D16z6 Block -> D16a6 Tranny Cant they all fit together? (Traction)

Oh hell, I forgot about the timing belt. That may be an issue. You'll probably have to do the opposite of a Mini-me on the timing belt too. http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmileo.gif

Again, I don't actually know anyone who ever did what you are planning but I see Z6/Y8 heads on D15B7s and D16A6s periodically so I have no reason to believe it won't work the other way around.

What was misinformation? Oh, the a6 being obd1, ya MY BAD...its obd0 I learned something new. stock a6 came with 108hp. TRUE, Y8 has a knock sensor that he would probably want to hook up...TRUE. I said IT WILL BOLT UP FINE....TRUE
so I AM SOOO SORRY FOR SAYING THAT IT WAS OBD1 when I WAS WRONG. woo hoo....
And I know what the fuck a built a6 head is....still why the fuck would you want to throw on a built a6 head. you could throw on the y8 head and havebetter hp numbers. now that a6 being built could probably handle more psi for FI , but...than a6? BUT COME ON..... thats ass backwards. ask anyone

the vtec block will most likely not have the oil control jet in the block. so take one from a non vtec block and put it in.. since you're using a non vtec head

I was going to say the same thing. The z6,y8,y7 (ones I know of) have the oil jet in the head. The A6 does NOT; it came in the block.

well most likely he will be running a pm6 or pg7 ecu which neither look for knock sensors so i dont see why you would wire it up, 2nd theres nothing wrong with a non vtec d-series.....the fastest all-motor sohc ares non vtec cause you can run a huge cam and the a6 flows better then a y8 head.....and the thing about the oil jet its this little thing you have to insert into a hold between cyl 2 and 3 im sure some1 can post a pic where it goes. good luck with the build

Why run a Y8/Z6 block anyways????

I for one, am building up yet ANOTHER SOHC engine...this time using a D16A6 block. Why?>? Because it has steel mains. No other D16 had steel mains. All dimensions of the blocks are the same, cranks interchange, etc....but will be stronger.

Also, I love the A6 head....a nice port job and an aggressive cam makes for a very good NA setup for cheap! Especially for those race cars trying to stay competitive in their class https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif
