d16a6 in a eg hatch no start
Hey guys so I just finished up swapping a recently rebuilt d16a6 into a 1993 dx hatch. When I bought the motor it had no cam gear on the motor so I used the d15b2 one off the old motor. Then used a d15b2 timing belt. Set the timing and put the motor in the car. Now it won't start. Turns over but sounds like there is no compression. Pulled the plugs out to do a compression test and the plugs are soaked in fuel. There for it is getting fuel forsure and I also checked for spark.
Upon testing for compression all 4 cylinders show no compression at all. But could this be from fuel washed cylinders? Tested the compression tester on a different car to rule out if its the compression tester but it worked fine. Could the plugs be fouled? They are soaked in fuel. And is there differences between a d15b2 and d16a6 timing belt and cam gear? Any help or input is appreciated

Have you checked to see if your getting spark? If you are not even with new/clean plugs then definately look into what's going on with your dizzy, ecu, IGN, wires etc. If your getting spark and fuel, and the results of a no fuel compression test still show very low comp, it would then be that whoever did the the recent rebuilding on that a6 was not up to par.

^^ sounds about right. Did you by chance do a compression test before you bought the motor or just after? Also do you know who put the rebuild together?

before i bought the motor i saw it running in my friends car, which he wrote off then parted out. could it also be valve lash? because i bought the motor with no cam and no cam gear, i got another d16a6 cam shaft from the autowrecker and put it in. could the adjustment be so far out that the valves are staying opened?

Re: d16a6 in a eg hatch no start
So after trying with oil in each cylinder I could not regain compression. So just thought I would check the valve adjustment. Found my problem, the valves were actually staying slightly opened at all times. Set the valve adjustment with a feeler guage to specs, did a compression test and bam 170psi across the board. Threw some new spark plugs in, smoked out my neighborhood when it finally started (had to burn out the oil and wd40 I put in the cylinders ) and now it runs amazingly.
