D16 Turbo problems... [long?]
The previous owner of the 1995 del sol turbo in my signature installed the kit.
It is non intercooled and is set at 5 psi...
I was unaware that the oil seals were bad on the turbo prior to purchasing it, and since I don't drive it hard all the time, no signs could be seen.
I had a friend take it to the track and run it, and it did a best of a 15.4 1/4 mile.
After two runs we noticed some oil on the front bumper and opened the hood to find out that oil was soaking one of the silicone couplers.. This is how we realized that the oil seal had blown..
Now.. with oil getting in to the engine through the intake, would this be the reason for the lower 1/4 mile time, or would that not significantly effect it?
He said he saw the boost gauge creep to between 8 and 8.5 psi while running it on the 15.4 run...
Someone help me out here..
also, anyone know a place in the ky/tn area that would replace the oil seals on this t25 for a good price?

The shop that installed the kit said that they installed the same kit on another del sol si, and it ran a 14.4 1/4 mile without the 255lph fuel pump........

Runnning turbo and no intercooler on a d series motor is the stupidest thing one person can do.Do yourself a favour and pick up atleast a sidemount of a dsm, and youll save yourelf headaces later on.

5 psi and non-intercooled, I wouldn't expect too much better than that.
From Car & Driver, a Del Sol with stock engine does the following for 1/8 and 1/4 times
1993 Honda Civic del Sol Si 8.8 16.8

Do me a favor and spare me the pointless posts.. Lots of people run non-intercooled with no problems, and the fact that it is a d series DOESN'T MATTER..
Anyways.. I just bought this:

I think it was a bad day, Do you know how many miles were on the turbo when you bought the car?
Also, some turbos hold up to non intercooled setups better then others. were the charge pipes wrapped with a an insulant, as well as the headers? Alot of things come into play when trying to pinpoint the cause of a problem like that. The turbo could've been old, with mild shaftplay, and built up too much heat in the bearings casing the oil to heat up and expand, etc. Who knows. Id have to see it.
