d16 tranny
well... i installed a B&M short shifter in my del sol si (d16z6) and now my syncros are going out from second gear. if i got from second gear to third or fourth, it will grind then go in. my shift linkage is also gettin loose. I do not want to rebuild my tranny. So, I was thinking about just buying another used tranny. would this be advisable? or will it just keep tearin up the trannys? my buddy has a 96 civic hatch with the d16y7 (or y8, i forget) and he said its fairly new so if it would bolt up to mine, i can have it. will this work?? thanks

Re: d16 tranny
y7 has longer gearing. look by the fill plug? i think. if there is a circle stamp with A000 stamped in it, its long gears. the ex/ si trans from 92-95 or ex from 96-00 is stamped B000 and has much better gearing.
ditch the short shifter. you should not be killing syncros. bearings like the isb bearing usually go first. short shifters often cause you to shift in a way thats unhealthy for the tranny.

Re: d16 tranny
heres how i saw it explained,
"basicaly said it can be fine for daily driven but if your going to the track and racing it can be bad because the short *** throw does not give the proper amount of time for the syncros to line up as well as a stocker would! i mean your shifts go from a 3 inch feeling throw to like an inch."
not so much the shifter but the person shifting i guess.
the more i read though, it seems to be a matter of opinion... hmmm
oh are you sure its your syncros? could be a bearing taking a dump...

Re: d16 tranny
only d15 tranny that was any good is the one of the d15b and its pretty much the same as the z6. just look for the B000 stamp and thats your ticket.
