after you get it pretty hot, and you let it idle for a long time, does the temp go back down or it still rises?

at a stand still, & at idle the car is chill(just fine) but after 5 minutes of runtime and 40+ is the correct potion to make it heat up every time.

and no thermostat, i had one on for a bit but didnt make s**t of a difference, and i wired my rad fan to a toggle to run whenever i see fit. the only thing i can think is i was going to clean my icav a while back before build and i forgot to drain the coolant first but i dont think air in the lines would cause this particular result.

Absolutely it will. Open the radiator cap in the morning and check the coolant level. If you cannot see any coolant fill it up. Leave the cap off and start the car. Let it get up to operating temperature with the heat on (cap off). Once the thermostat opens, the coolant level should drop. Fill it up all the way untill is starts spilling. Once it is up to temperature, look in the radiator to see if the coolant is moving/flowing. This will also allow any air in the system to escape. You're probably going to want to have the fan on. \

------REMEMBER TO KEEP AN EYE ON THE GAUGE--------

Then put the cap back on, and go drive it.

Oh yeah.... is the check engine light on? And are there any coolant leaks anywhere?

Also.... Did you pull the head for any reason?

Wow.... So your temp gauge is reading incorrect, and the headgasket had been replaced.

Now... change your temperature gauge, or test the operation.

Then... make sure your head is torqued correctly and there is no coolant in the oil, or vise versa. Or any leaks.

DANG!

lol okay bro i toped off the coolant durring idle and its all fine right now, day driving tomorrow so ill see how it handles the florida heat.

my temp gauge is reading fine now, i went through the harness two nights ago and fixed the problem with it so... THE GAUGE IS GOOD!

I did all the torque specs on the head to the proper amount of pounds, 42 to be exact :D

no coolant in oil/no oil in coolant my friend, thanks for your help thus far, i will status update tomorrow after i run its daily commute and see how she does.

yea were all good now, guess it needed the slightest bit more coolant.
i just gotta throw a thermostat in it now so at steady speed it doesnt slowly heat up.

thanks for the help bro, much appreciated! i woulda spent like 500 on an entire new cooling system if you hadn't recommended those few things.

I HAVE A D16z6 AND SAME EXACT PROBLEM. its got a new thermostat new head gasket it also had the arp head studs and torqed properly. but i think my problem is the head. because it idles good with no over heat but after driving for about an hour or so it starts to over heat. i check radiator and its low.. no leaks at all idk what it could be other then the head. or motor

and?

You say your coolant is low. Did you top it off? Did you bleed the system?

you might have a warped head, if your driving at moderate speeds and you start to OH you could be losing pressure do to a warped head and the cooland could be slowly but surely burning up in the cylinders.

yes you did dude :D problem solved im not disputing that, ...buutttt.... elitesky seems to have followed same process and no luck, next to having pressure tested things and the test coming back fine and coolant still vanishing i wouldn't exactly disregard that the head could have slight crack or even moderate warpage.? cheers
