Default D16 clutch desicions

I did search but im looking for more personal info.

Im looking for a new clutch and flywheel for my del sol. I daily drive my car but my stock clutch is slipping a bit, im having trouble chirping 2nd.

my setup: d16z6, boosted at 6psi, 2-1/2 exhaust. Also i think i will be hondata tuned for 9-10 psi at the end of the summer or next spring. So i want the clutch to be able to handle that.

These are the clutches im looking at:

1. ACT Performance Organic Street Disc - with the streetlite or prolite flywheel.

2. Exedy organic clutch - with exedy flywheel.

3. Suggestions? please ! Will the clutches above hold the mighy tq #'s ill be making?

i would like to spend around $500 on the clutch and flywheel. My birthday is coming up soon so this would be a great present.

Thanks!

I had an Exedy cerametalic on mine. It held 12 psi and was great at the track. But it chatters a little too, makes driving in traffic a pain. I put a stock clutch back in and it breaks loose under full boost. I'm interested to hear how the orgainic clutches perform.

I used to have the GReddy kit at 5-10 psi--depending on if my HKS VBC decided to work or not --and I ran the ACT HDSS kit on my Y8. It worked great! Pedal feel is a bit stiffer than stock, but I used it in stop-and-go traffic without a problem. It also held the power just fine; ACT rates it at 223 lb-ft of torque, which should be good enough for 10 pounds. I still use it even though I'm no longer boosted, and it's still going strong. It has about 13000-14000 miles on it. 10500 of those were boosted.

before you buy make sure to look into Clutch Specialties clutches! ive had mine for about 6 months now and am very happy with it. I got the 6 puck unsprung with heavy duty disc... My personal opinion is... its still very streetable and the pedal is just alittle stiffer than stock. if you go to the classifieds section in Homemadeturbo.com forum and look at the sticky up top the member name is 88 turbo crx or something like that...i got mine 250 shipped.

i have an action six puck sprung clutch on mine and i like it for the most part. it seems to come with a stock pressure plate or something because the pedal feels real soft, it grabs nice tho.

act hdss w/ prolite fly here ... love it to death. come to pittsburgh and drive my car, you'll be sold on the prolite i promise. if you're getting a light flywheel, at least get a light one.

i have the HDSS and prolite on my greddy turboed d16. the pedal feel is like stock. this setup is so easy to drive that i regret not getting the 4 puck disk.
since the pedal is so light, feathering a puck disc is no biggy for an average driver.

If you want a setup that chirps, keep your stock flywheel.

also, tq ratings on a clutch is static friction. from gear to gear, it will be moving, so always get something more than your car can put out.

when i got mine, it was great...now i wish it was lighter, get the idea?

HDSS is so streetable, i bet you're gonna wish you went with a puck disk, oh btw is cheaper, lighter, and holds more torque

what does it mean that you got your blue box tuned?

you're right about the flywheel, but wrong about the clutch.

always use the least agressive clutch that can do the job - anything more is unnecessary, and just puts shock on your tranny. if you're boosting 10 psi the hdss will hold up fine; however, you might want to go for the xtss as it's the next step up. try contacting act and see what they would recommend.

but yeah, a light flywheel is nothing but great. anybody who says otherwise either: a) has never used one or b) needs to convert to auto. 8.8lb prolite, 6.75lb comptech or ... 6.1 lb tilton

thanks you all once again.

When i say blue box tuned its a joke. Ya know the fuel management in old greddy kits...

I used the ACT Street Disk and HDSS Pressure plate, it held up good to 210 ft lbs of torque so far. I'm going to try pushing it a little farther now, but may have to end up upgrading to a 4 or 6 puck and Xtreme Pressure Plate.

keep your options open...
just b/c it comes with a cheaper price than act doesn't mean your comprimising quality. do a search , ive never heard anyone having a problem with them.

because your pressure plate has the same clamping force as a stock one.
