D16 build up
I just bought a SOHC D16 VTEC motor. i would like to build it up to run with the DOHC motors, can someone help me figure out a good set up to build it up with. i would like to make a SOHC motor hold with a DOHC motor cause no one does it really.

Re: D16 build up (Jaskula1)
Just some basic ideas...
Turbo: Greddy Turbo Kit, 10 psi, fuel management
NA: D16A1 pistons, LS shot-peened rods, Skunk2 IM, Crower/Exospeed/Zex/Crane cam, upgraded valvetrain, SRR 4.9 Final Drive
Nitrous: 75 shot on stock internals, upgraded rods/pistons/sleeves for more
Which route do you wanna go?

i have a sohc and im right here with ya. first i would say port and polish, then the fastest way to build power without the extreme aging nitrous puts on a motor is boost

Re: D16 build up (BauleyCivic)
I was thinking some pistons, cam, and a valve job and i would get turbo in the near future. what would you put in for pistons for that? 8:1?

SRR 4.9 final drive...you get it from http://www.exospeed.com
HOWEVER this will make your gear ratios INCREDIBLY close and your highway crusing RPM a bit annoying...not to mention 4.9 FD's are harder to launch at the track (according to mista bone)
I dont recommend this until you have a strong all-motor setup...you wont really need it until then...
For turbo...many people are making well over 200 WHP on stock internals with stock D16's...all you need is a greddy turbo kit, an intercooler, larger injectors and fuel pump...and an engine management system such as Hondata

I'll agree to the Greddy setup.

simply putting a 1700 greddy turbo kit on will not get you into the 13s...i saw more than a few turbo sohcs last summer at battle of the imports and the best they could do was high 14s. Thats still really respectable for a sohc though.
the only sohcs that run 13s or faster definitly are running with slicks, no interior, and surely aren't as streetable as a B or H series motor that runs the same ET. If this isn't your daily driver, go for it, I love to see fellow single cammers tearing up dohcs.

I agree that slapping on a turbo kit wont weild you 13s, but disagree with the rest of it. At 10 psi I ran a 13.8 in a full interior 97 hatch. This was on street tires as well (Azenis)
EDIT: This was the Td04h-15g kit, tuned by me, with the E-manage. I also have a Type 24 fmic among other little goodies.

I disagree...I've read about several civics with full interiors on street tires with greddy kits putting 200+ to the wheels and mid-high 13 second quarter miles...ricey included...also search user "5thgen"

Re: D16 build up (BauleyCivic)
Greddy Kits can be had new for 1400 shipped (92-95 EX Kits)
BoV = ur choice 50 to 200
Intercooler 250 Jonnyrace car
SOHC Intake Manifold Swap Skunk2 or El's 230 to 300
RC 444 cc's 210 for Lucus 440's
AFC Hack 200 to 340
ARP Headstuds 110
Low Compersion Headgasket 100 to 200
200 bucks for some dnyo time
Aftermarket Clutch and Flywheel (Some run stock resurfaced, heavyer flywheel and turbo isn't bad) 200 to 1000 depending
For easly under 3k, @ 10 psi with a greddy kit, unless u can't drive, any Y7,Y8,Z6 will run high 13's with a setup like this and a good driver and a good tune, they put down 180whp + @ 10 psi, all depending on the motor
this is just what i noticed some people have and they run low 14's and later on with good tires and driving and re tuning run high 13's. check out Turbo16.com they had many people hit nice *** whp numbers with turbo sohc, and people there have greddy kits, ALL stock Inturals, No Studs or Headgasket runing high 13's all day @ 9 to 11 psi.

and with a y7 too
Me and my buddy just finished up putting a new head on in his 97 ex civic this weekend. His setup is i/h/e, stock y8 block, ported z6 head, milled, zex stage 2 cam, crower valve springs and retainers, upgraded valves. Pulls pretty nice and makes power up to around 7800 right now and this is with it not being tuned at all. Right now the timing is probably a little off because we are using a y8 skunk2 cam gear which doesn't work with the z6 head. We had to play around with the timing and jump a couple teeth on the cam gear to get it to work. Anyways good luck no matter what route you take
