D16... B16 is there really a noticeble difference??
I am undecided after i read a couple of blogs on the b16 ... is it really worth it putting it on a 94 hatch si.... is there a big difference or not.

lol Huge difference. Not to mention that with a B-series you have soo much more room for expansion as far as performance is concerned.

Well, ive never driven any car with a honda engine but from what i can gather i believe the B16A will pull identical to the D16 on the lower rpms however after VTEC kicks in youll notice quite the diff.

"Vtek is mad y0, everytime my b16's vtec kicks in I **** excellence."
b18b with a b16 tranny and you'll be much more content. Both the b16 and b18b are both suitable motors for boost. But if you don't have any plans for boost I'd go with the b18b with a better geared tranny will dominate a b16.
B16 will feel JUST like a d16 until 5000 rpms.

Every B series has great aftermarket support because the majoirty of B series parts are interchangeable.

ok here is my question i have a 99 EX d16y8 i know that it is a vtech but what is the difference between that and a B-series. so far all have heard is that parts are more available and that some b-series have vtech which i have. So what makes the power gains so much greater in a b series?

1) it's vtec
2) a search would net you a lot of answers.
d16y8 - Sohc ~130 Flywheel Horses ~112 tq
- Responds terribly to bolt ons (excluding turbo)
- Small displacement
- expensive to go N/A and get anywhere
- Cheap to buy new ones if you blow one up.
b16a - Dohc ~160hp ~115 tq (Torqueless wonder)
- Responds alright to bolt ons
- Same displacement as a d16
- Also expensive to go N/A and has restrictions due to displacement, compression, manifolds etc.
- Expensive to replace
- Feels like a d16 until 5000 rpms.

I bed to differ, maybe un-tuned.
How can they be that close when the gsr has 20 more bhp and 20 more tq almost.
I would think in a lightweight hatch a gsr (once tuned) would put the car in high 13's low 14's.
Most b16 swaps run high 14's.

Re: D16... B16 is there really a noticeble difference?? (ek forever guy)
Yes untuned in the stock form. I have 2 friends one has a 2000 civic si and the other has a gsr, neither one of them pulls on eachother that hard (the gsr does slightly) Only bad thing about the gsr though is compatability.

B16 and ITR heads have mainly interchangeable parts. While the gsr head kind of does its own thing.

A gsr is very heavy. In fact I think heavier than a civic.
A gsr vs. a b16 in the same platform I.E. 95 hatch. or whatever car, the gsr, once tuned will be faster than the b16.

the only thing different is the gsr's intake manifold bolt pattern. everything else inside the head is interchangeable between pr3 and p72 heads.
