Are D15Z1 rods the same as D16 rods?
I need to know if there are any differences in the rods between the D15Z1 and all the D16's. I know that the general measurements are the same (rod length, wrist pin size, etc), however I'm not 100% sure as to whether they are directly interchangable. If anyone knows I would be most greatful. Thanks.

they are not the same. the d15z1 and d16 rods both have the 137mm length, but the d15z1 has the smaller rod bearing size.

How do you know this? I just checked and compared them and could not see a difference. The D15B/Z1 pistons are shorter thou.

Engine Designation, Stroke, Con-Rod Length, R/S Ratio:
D16A1,A6,Z6,Y5,Y7,Y8 90mm 137mm 1.52
D15B1,B2,B8,B7 84.5mm 134mm 1.59
D15Z1,D15B VTEC 84.5 137mm 1.62
ALL 1.6L rods have 48mm big ends.
All D15 non HF have 45mm big ends
HF and D13/D14 have 42 mm big ends.

Well, there you go. I actually got my information from mista bone though. I couldn't remember if the rod bearing size was 45 or 40 so I didn't mention a size.

Actually I just measured my jdm d15b rods with bearings taken out and they are 48mm, I also measured a d16y8 rod and its 48mm as well. The FSM only says the the d15b8 rod bore size is 45mm, doesnt mention anything else.

My minime is built out of a D15B8, so now I must begin the search for a JDM D15B crank and rods.
Also, according to the compression calculators and my own calculations. The combination of using a D15B with PM6 pistons should yield approximately 13:1 compression. My question is: will there be any clearance issues around the edge of the piston against the head? I know that the PM6's are relatively flat, and are also relatively tall, however I'm unsure as to whether they will stick out of the block or not. If anyone can let me know, I'll be greatful.

what head are you using? I am getting 13.9 with a z6 head and 12.1 with a b7 head and 13.3 with an a6 head. Are you going to be able to run the high of a compression of pump gas?

Another disscussion on this very same subject, the Z1 shares the same rod (code P08) as the JDM D15B SOHC VTEC engine. Read here, they are NOT the same as the D16 rods:

d15z1 rods and d16 rods... the same?
ok, so i am preparing to rebuild this d15z1, and i am making a list of all the crap i have, and what i need. i come to bearings, and i say to myself "self, you have brand new bearings from the d16 you never built". and i know that the main journals are 55mm on the d16 and 45mm on the d15, so those are no good. BUT i noticed that the rod journals are listed as the same size, 45mm.
i cant believe i have never noticed this. why the hell are people going through all the trouble of sourcing d15z1 parts when the rods for that motor appear to be the same rods that are in the d16s? we know they are both 137mm and Bone has posted picks of the d15z1 rods next to the d15b7 rods, and you can clearly see they are wider.
so, does this mean that the d15z1 and d16* rods are the same animals? can we simply drop the d16* parts into any d15 and have the jdm d15b love we all long for?
also this is assuming that ALL d15* blocks are the same
thougths, questions, comments?

D16 = 45mm
D15 non hf = 42mm
D13/D14/D15 HF = 40mm
Rod journals I speak of.
BTW there are no off the shelf D15Z1 rods, but Brian willing to make a set for me, at cost.
(enter dream world..........)
Let see, D15Z1 spec rods, 140mm C-C length, Endyn D16 road race pistons.....
I'm guessing 10.5-11.0 cmopression with a 1.66 RS ratio.
