d15b8 block/d15b7 head
well, just finished a swap for a guy......he has a 93 dx that was unusually fast for what it was......not super fast, but with literally no mods that anyone knows of, it was a high 15 second car with the stock d15b7 in it........not lightened, really nothing done to it at all......i didn't believe it until i saw it.....something has to be done but who knows what......
anyway, he spun a rod bearing in that motor, it sat for a year and i was gonna put in the used d15b7 to get it running again.....well, it was a d15b8 he paid $600 for LOCALLY without anything but the longblock.....got screwed over, knows nothing but how to drive and put gas in it
well, he had a good d15b7 head and it was not port matched or looked to be modded at all.....everything looked completely stock on it.....inside and out.....so i put the d15b7 head/intake manifold/exhaust manifold on the d15b8 block.....and rigged the coolant lines to work with it.....got it running today, and compared to my lighter 92 cx hatch with a dx tranny and d15b8 (no mods of course), he could put 5 cars on me in the 1/4 if not more.....he's got the regular tranny as far as i know, and there is no reason it should be as quick as it is......cam looked stock, etc.....
but the d15b8/d15b7 combo, in his case anyway, was really worth it...seems stronger than a d15b7 for sure and just as strong as a d16z6.....has an odd DOHC VTEC like surge at 3000rpm.....makes no sense to me, but it's just faster than it should be isn't it?
i didn't expect the combo to be as strong as a dx, but it seems as strong as it was when it ran a 15.8 or 15.9 or whatever....milling the head would't help that much really, would it....running 87 octane gas-water in it.......ecu looks stock........just an oddball or what?

Re: d15b8 block/d15b7 head (BauleyCivic)
that's what i thought.....they looked exactly the same
i knew the pistons were, but i noticed the water outlet on the water pump tube was on the cx, and not the dx block......other than that i couldn't see anything
weird how good it runs though........
