Default D15B8 to B16A2or3 Swap!

Ok I am been through the posts here and have done some research on my own and have come up with what i feel is the ideal swap for my needs. I am trying not to sound like to much of a newb, but here goes...

I have a 1992 Honda Civic CX with a D15B8 8 Valve SOHC 1493cc with 9.1:1 C.R. 70bhp. I have desided on using a B series motor from a 92-95 Civic SiR JDM. The B16A2 or 3, 16 Valve DOHC VTEC 1595cc 10.4:1 C.R. 160bhp.

I am not a racer.. I normally tune trucks. However with gas on the rise and living in a metro area something smaller was a must. I am hopping for a more responsive, slightly more powerfull Civic HB. Fun to drive is the only must. However if this turns out to be as enjoyable as it seems it might be. I would like to have room for for future modifications such as turbo. If this plan is realistic than it is time to move on to questions. Or maybe links to forums with answers or other pages instead of answers is fine to.

1. Is the swap as straight forward as I make it seem? i.e. Will I need to mod the firewall, engine compartment, hood or change the mounts?

2. Is there any major electrical moding to consider? Moving a harness, lengthing and or rerouting I do not consider major. New computers or changing chips and things are major cause they are needed to make the engine function properly.

3. Is there plenty of room for future mods? With the goal not being a race car but a very fun to drive daily commuter?

4. What is ECM and or ECU? I have sen the terms and feel like I should really know what they mean?

Thanks for any responses, and sorry if I am being a newb!

The B16A2 and A3 are not JDM SIR motors.

If you did a little more research you would have found those answers easily.

ok to answer your questions.
1.it is a pretty straight forward swap all you will need to do is buy some mounts (ex. hasport)

2.i am not completely sure on this one but i think the cx engine harness is a good one to use you just need to add/lengthen a few wires. you will need a different ecu

3.yes plenty of room wether you want to do fi of some sort like a sc or turbo.

4.pretty sure what ecu you want is a pr3 but if you buy a complete swap from someplace like hmotors they will send you everything you will need

Ok great info thx.. hmotors, are they overpriced.. I will check them out. pr3 ECU ok will add that to my shopping list.. The B series JDM's do they respond well to bolt ons?? Seems as though they do.. From what I have seen it is not unresnable to get 190-200 hp out of them.

your on the right route man, its good to know you have done your homework. If anybody flames you or anything, screw em, I think youll be more than happy with the engine you choose and it is pretty straight foward, I will be doing it this summer and can not wait, especially once I start boosting it. Have fun!

go with hmotors and get the sir 2 swap. This is the most reputable swap dealer in north america. My whole group of friends and just about everyone I know has used hmotors and everyone of the motors that I see that comes from them are excellent. As far as your car goes. You will ne able to use the existing mounts that are in the car right now and you will have to wire a couple of things, but since you have a 92 cx, they were already made with vtec wired into the engine wiring harness. Other than that, buy the whole swap and it will come with the axles that you need to use along with the tranny and ecu. My friends b16 had 165 whp with just intake, header, and exhaust. A very nice motor. Hope this helps you. you will be very satisfied if you decide to go this route. Gas mileage is reasonable and this setup is very realiable naturally aspirated. the sir 2 swap is now like 2400.00 to the door. i think that is a fair price. good luck

Sweet.. good info. 2400.00 is a great price.. Do they tell you the millage of the used rebuilt motor you are getting? Not really a big deal if they are one of the best in the U.S. and rebuild the motors them selves..

the motors are just taken out of the cars in japan or they might buy the whole front clip and remove the motors themselves or sell the whole front clip. Most motors have anywhere between 25-35k miles. my b16b was out of a 99 civic and purrs.
