Default d15b7 gas mileage problem?

i just recently purchased a 93 civic ex sedan and it came with a d15b7.

the body has 124k on it but im pretty certain the engine and tranny have quite a bit more.

after my last fillup i had 220miles on the odometer and filled 8.49 gallons which if i do my math correctly is only 25mpg

i read about all you other guys getting anywhere from 30-45mpg

is their an issue or am i seeing correct results because it's an ex?

i also shift at about 2800rpms

edit: i also have the p28 ecu and it is non vtec engine

Something's not right. I had a 95 EX with close to 200k miles and I was getting 35-37MPG.

any ideas what it could be?

occasionally i feel a loss of power in low rpms in first and second so could tranny be affecting this in anyway?

You're ECU is problem the problem right there. Running a v-tec ECU on a non-vtec motor. The air/fuel mapping is wayyyyy off for that engine bro. Try running a p05, p06, p08 and see if that give you a lot better mileage...

alright i'll call the performance shop and see what that will run me...

any estimates?

also i read on a couple other forum sites that the p28 was fine to use on d15b7? or was that only if you have the z6 head for vtec?

D15B7 is out of DX, however, when it was installed the person may have left the EX transmission which is going to be geared a lot lower so you will see quite a bit of improvement by switching to the P20/A000 transmission out of a 92-95 Civic CX/VX. I had a CX hatch with this transmission but I put in a D15B7 for a bit more power and still squeaked 42 mpg out of it daily...

I would get a P06 like these guys are saying and check the transmission as well and you should be on your way to huge MPG lol.

i gave the shop a call and he said i should buy a p06 from 30-50 bucks and then just sell my p28 for like 100

he said the ex tranny is pretty short so it shouldnt need to be swapped but he also recomeneded getting rotor cap wires all checked out as well.

thx for the help guys
