d15b vtec - starter motor spins but does not engage flywheel
OK so I bought a d15b vtec and put a tested and good starter on it (even triied 2 or 3 starters) So when I start it i head the stater click and turn how ever it seems it doesn't make the flywheel turn it is turning free. flywheel is in good condition, any one have any ideas on what the issue could be???

Re: d15b vtec starter issues help pls
well its a jdm motor will the cdn/usdm 92-95 civic starter work? I would imagine so. I have a feeling the stater shaft isn't reaching the fly wheel.

Re: d15b vtec starter issues help pls
I have triied a 96-00 starter and I believe that its a 92-95 on there now I am putting this in a 95 civic hatch back. I have also triied bypassing the starter direct from the battery same thing. the tranny is a 96-00 but it did the same with the jdm tranny.

^Post some clear pictures to verify.
Next, at the starter, measure voltage at the large starter motor wire [key off] and at the small starter solenoid wire [key in ON(III)]. For the voltage tests, compare using the (-) battery post versus top of the transmission as ground. Post the voltage readings.

idk how the flywheel could spin independently from the motor unless it had no bolts in it... also any starter for a manual works on the D15B as I have one myself.

Re: d15b vtec - starter motor spins but does not engage flywheel
So I took the small black plate between the engine and tranny off and started it to see what was happening well sure enough the starter was making the teeth spin on the flywheel but the flywheel wasn't turning and this is the reason why!!
