D15B VTEC WITH P28 HELP...!!
I recently bought a JDM D15B Motor and installed it into my 94 civic dx coupe about a month ago. Well after about 3 weeks of searching I finally found a P28, it was out of a Del Sol. A friend of mine who does swaps all the time gave me a hand with the wiring and dropping the motor in. Well my car was running perfect with the P06 just had no vtec, and now that I installed the p28 when i first start my car up, it does a rev jump for about 3 or 4 minutes.. It revs up, idles, revs up, idles, revs up, idles, ect... Anyone know what the hell is going on? I know there is that thermal switch underneath the throttle body but before i go doing all that I was wondering if maybe it was something else. Thanks...

what JDM_SOHC said. if chipped ecu check to see if the chip is there. it might be unpluged.

Is there a way i can bypass that, so my check engine well go off, besides unplugging the bulb and being ghetto? And have u ever heard of auto ecu causing manual car probs?

you need to remove some resistors IIRC. read through http://www.pgmfi.org, there are directions in the wiki databse showing how to modify the ECU to convert from auto to manual.

Re: (ef_you_again)
When U have a non-vtec motor does using the p28 over p06 do anything?
I don't understand why people do it. Does it give better perforance? I may get grilled for that question....But ill be a quarter pounder with cheese 4 knoweledge.

19 Automatic transmission lockup control valve
Hmmm........crazy idea, but maybe try using the correct ECU for your motor instead of the................wrong one. Maybe your engine will work properly then???

p06 & p28 are essentially the same, one has VTEC control & a different ROM.

That doesn't matter. Just convert the P28 from auto to manual

Re: (DJ_SaNdOz)
To convert the auto ecu to manual ecu it says, remove RP17 and RP18, and replace RP18 with a jumper wire, and then it shows pictures of how to do it but i can't make out what they mean by replacing RP18 with a jumper wire. The picture looks like RP18 is connected to RP17 with a lil speaker wire or something, is that what it is? Also, well that just shut the check engine light off or well that actually change the ECU settings from Auto to Manual?? Because i know that the Auto ECU is a little different than the Manual ECU....

Re: (JDM_SOHC)
most people buy a resistor from radio shack & just use the legs from it for teh jumper wire. that's all that you need to do, the rom is identical for auto/manual ecu's IIRC.

Re: (DJ_SaNdOz)
ive got an auto p28 running my d15b vtec, and before i converted it myself, i had no problems with it revving up at idle, it just threw a cel19. all i did was remove one of the resistors and BAM!! good to go over a year now. and i did it from http://www.pgmfi.org/ in like 2 minutes and no probs. the problem your having sounds more like a bad fitv or a vuccum leak. good luck man

See JDM_SOHC; the rom's are the same for auto/manual ECU's. it's the jumper/resistor placement that makes them different as I indicated.
