i've never heard of this motor before, does anyone have any info on it, does it have an hx like head, any wierd o2 sensor issues? horse power ratings? again this is a d15b vtec- E not a dx d15b non vtec, or a d15b vtec

its the exact same thing as a cali spec D15Z1, crappy boat anchor is all it is. 92hp at the flywheel 103ft lbs.
doesnt use a wideband, and as far as i know you will never find the right ecu. UNLESS, you run a P07 and wideband, wire up your car for the 5wire, egr stuff, etc.

d15z1, vx motor....not rare at all. 5 wire O2 sensor (wideband) so the computer can run as lean of a mixture as possible. Small ports, so the head is usless, but it has roller rockers that you can put on a Z6, or d15b head, but you have to use a reground VX cam to make it worthwhile. (it's the only cam that will fit with the roller rockers)

my old engine is d15b vtec-e. came from jdm civic ETi. dunno if us got their own version.
its basically a fuel economy version of civic. my personal best was 18km/L motorway......!!!! was stoked when i realise that.
what they do is actually running the engine 12valve system when the vtec is not engaging. when u reach around 3000rpm, then the vtec lobes works and pushing the other 2valves (per cyl) makes it 16valves.
there's another variant of vtec, 3stage vtec. i think its been covered here sometimes ago.

Re: (sugarfree)
cool well the us vx motor is an 8 valve, so this does sound like a d15b bottem end with an hx head. the motor i'm refering to is jdm if that helps

nah, the USDM z1 VX motor is 12valve until vtec crossover, then the other intake valve on each cylinder is activated.
the obd2 JDM d15b vtec uses vtec-e and regular vtec, combined to make a hybrid Y8/Y5 mix, there is no equivelant to the USDM y5 to a T atleast.
