d15b vs. d16a6, p29 pistons....
so i have my mind set, i'm gonna get a d15b... then my friend gives me a free d16a6 shortblock, suggests i just build that...
i want to swap by the end of the month, its the best time to... my setup will be a z6 tranny, centerforce clutch, i/h/e... now which motor?
-jdm d15b... gonna cost me $300, and i have to buy p28
-d16a6... using a6 head, gonna pay for new p29 pistons, rebuild kit
in all seriousness, i will be swapping on the 26th of this month... what is the better route, in terms of price, speed, and reliability?

with the d16 route, wouldn't i need to re-hone the block, get new bearings and such also? if so, i hope that the price doesn't pass the d15b...
thanks bauley

i'd actually get the block bored .25mm (standard oversize) and get oversize P29's...as well as new bearings, piston rings, gaskets...
I dunno, if you like building motors then go for it, if you don't have a clue, do the D15B. If you rebuild the A6 you know you'll have a new well-built motor instead of a used (and possibly abused) D15B
And yes, a built A6 would surpass $300...might even be towards $800-$1000...I know, because my friend has a D16A6 with P29's that he built himself

oh, ok.... so by dropping the p29 pistons in, i will have to change all gaskets and make sure everything is up to par... definitely spending more than the original $300 for d15b and $100 for p28 ecu...
has anybody done the p29/a6 combo for relatively cheap?

No because no one is dumb enough to build a motor "the cheap way." You do it the right way, otherwise you'll have to rebuild it after 10,000 miles
