Default D15B Running rich!

I dropped a 1997 JDM D15B w/3 stage vtec into my 1996 ek hb. Currently i am getting around 220 miles every time i fill up my tank with 9 gallons so im getting around 25 mpg in the city. I do have a cel code on but its only for my IAT. Any suggestions?

I would start at the code there man. Any reason for not replacing the sensor. ****'s did not make the IAT, but your car prolly thinks you are one for not replacing it. Replace sensor, get new plugs, reset ecu, drive around and pull plugs....check for coloring then; no need to waste a tank of gas to calculate if your car is running rich

If you have stock Honda wires they are good for a long time and I wouldn't replace unless I had to. I would get a set of NGK plugs, but for the money you were going to pay for those get OEM plugs.

And why would you have to hard wire the IAT. If need be its only two wires....so easy a caveman could do it

Also check the distributor cap and rotor and adjust the ignition timing to spec.

Naw by hard wiring i meant just having to manually wire it to the ecu because i cant find the plug... haha

Would i have to go to a shop to adjust the ignition timing to spec?

By checking the distributor cap and rotor what am i exactly looking for? i am still kinda new to this so sorry for all these questions.

Well wiring the IAT is not hard to do. Go to the junkyard and purchase a plug then hard-wire...that is fine.

Adjusting timing will have to be done at a shop if you don't have a timing gun nearby. If you have a timing gun its easy, hook up, point and shoot at crank pulley.

The dizzy cap and rotor should be checked for excessive wear on the different "points" on the cap. You will basically see these small metal pieces coming out and if it looks severely discolored or burnt you should replace. But really you don't need to check, for they are both cheap and should just be replaced.

Check the FAQs sticky for a diagram that details exactly how to set the ignition timing. Some auto parts stores offer free rentals on many tools, including a timing gun.

I have the same problem. Im getting 20 mpg all of the sudden with a code 43. So i bought a new 02 sensor (170 dollars) from majestic honda and thought that would solve it but.....nope. I get a little black smoke constant, pooor poor mpg. I reset the ecu but so no code now but sill poor mpg and black smoke. I did a vacuum/volt test on map sensor and it checked ok.. Going to get a vacuum smoke test done friday... I feel your pain
