Hey all,

I am not familiar with Civic, only Preludes and Accords. Anyway, I am researching a replacement motor for my brother's 93 Civic DX hatch. I am about to purchase the D15B 92-95 Civic motor. After a quick search on Google, I see that there are two different B15B's. One is actually the same as a D16Z6. http://www.nippon-motors.com/honda.htm Which one am I getting? I am ordering off http://www.noyanusa.com.

If I ask for the 92-95 D15B Civic motor, am I getting a VTEC SOHC motor?

He wants his car stock, mainly for the good gas mileage. Also, what do you recommend me to replace before it goes into this car? I plan on timing belt, water pump, and clutch. Anything else?

there are several versions of the JDM D15B engine out there so be careful.
there is the 92hp VTEC-E version (see D15Z1)
the 130hp VTEC version (see D16Z6)
there is a dual VTEC version used in the 96-98 (yes dual VTEC solinoids)
and a few non VTEC versions as well.

the main part you want to pay attention to is the head casting. P07 is the 92hp version, P08 is the 130hp version. I don't know about the others.

the JDM d15b VTEC is the 130 hp engine. try to find one ofthose, its about the same as the d16z6, but i think it has a higher compression

For the price, does it sound like the motor is the 130hp VTEC version? When I called, he said it was for the engine, tranny, and ECU.

If it is VTEC, that means it has to run premium gas. That is what he DOESN'T want to do.

Any good places to buy USDM B15 motors? I need to fix his car ASAP.

the link to the place you're ordering from is bad.
the price isn't really a dead give away, they run about the same range. the 130hp version tends to run a little more though.

just because it's a VTEC engine does not mean you have to run premium.

if you want simple, quick and cheap why not replace it with the same engine? the D15b7 can be had for a lot less and probably locally as well.

yeah, I prefer to swap the same motor in. I am trying to find one locally but I can't seem to find one.

premium gas? i didnt knoe that..been driving my d15b vtec for a year now on 87 and i have no problems

Oh, ok.

I am curious what I have to do to drop the D15 VYEC into his car. Will it require me to only run the two wires for the VTEC solenoid and pressure switch? Can I use his existing wire harness?

What will I have to do to get a VTEC motor to work in his DX chassis?

i just got a d15b vtec and it only have 1 wire at the vtec solenoid. it didnt come with the oil pressure switch for vtec. ive been reading that the d15b does not come with a oil pressure switch for vtec.
You will have to run wire from the vtec solenoid to your computer. i forgot the exact pins but if you use the SEARCH you will find what you need.
I think you have to rewire you 02 sensor too. the d15b engine came with a 1 wire oxygen sensor and i think yours have a 4 wire oxgen sensor. I THINK.

to use the P28 on a D15b you will either have to swap in a VTEC solinoid from a Z6 or simply connect the oil pressure switch wire from the ECU to the VTEC solinoid wire.

you also have to use the 4-wire O2 if you're going to use the P28.
If you use the JDM ECU then you have to use the O2 that it requires.


swapping in the same engine will be easier (for obivious reasons), but it doesn't take a lot to get a D15b to work either. They will be the same mechanically to install, but you will have to do some electrical work. what will you have to do exactly? it depends on what you get, what comes with it and what you want to use for an ECU.

block code D15B head code I don't know.
http://asia.vtec.net/article/d15b/ has some info on it.
I've been casually looking for one to play with for a year or so.
