d15b jdm vtec motor?'s
I just got my eg6 this past sunday and it's a dx but it has a y7 in it already but would like to know how many people have or have had a d15b jdm vtec motor. How is it compared to a z6 or y8 motor, good and bad. I'm not into swapping in a b-series. I know some people have been lucky and have scored lsd trannies also but thats besides the point. How would they be for boosting(tops 10psi)? Thanks!

one of my buddies has one in his hatch and it pulls for being a 1.5 liter. i still think he/you should just go d16 for boost or save up and get a b16 or better. more torque is so much better

Like the d-series better. It more rewarding when you can beat a b16 with a sohc and when someone spent a g just on parts to swap in a b series. b16 swaps are like altezza's and everybody and there mothers have em'.

I've never seen a d15 VTEC, but I got a JDM D16A SOHC VTEC. I've been told that the D16A is basically between a Y8 and a Z6, but a lot beefier since its JDM. More like a ZC I would guess by the specs. I think the D15 VTEC is pretty much an updated ZC. Check out this site ---> http://asia.vtec.net/article/d15b/

I can relate to your loyalty towards the D series engine.
ANYWAYS, if you really want to make that D move, get a turbo. Don't bother with the standard intake/ex.mani./exhaust 3-hit combo EVERYONE has already got. Unless your getting lighter internals and MORE fuel, it's pointless. If you are trying the "mini-me" head swap, just pick up a complete D16 longblock. More CCs to begin with, plus, a GReddy kit fits rather nicely on that engine...heh heh.

I've got a low mileage y7 in my hatch right now and a homemade turbo kit ready to bolt on but 30 extra hp's from the d15b couldn't hurt, especially for 400. Heard there were shops in CA that sold em' for 250. Damn WI!

We have a JDM D15B SOHC VTEC motor laying around.... it's actually our "smog" motor when it comes time to smog our cars (just used it in 2 of our cars in this past week). Driving impressions.... has ZERO torque but once it gets going, it moves pretty good (like a B16), but this was in a stripped out, caged EG hatchback (approx 1800 lbs) so the car is light to begin with.
When you use a HX exhaust manifold and a stock Civic cat underneath, it's almost gauaranteed that you pass with flying colors .

Ive recently swapped one into my hatch, and i must say its pretty impressive considering its a d15. If i compared it to the others i would still go with it, unless you find one of the others for a better price.

Re: (dremmel)
the beauty of the d15b opposed to the US sohc vtec motors is it will take much more abuse ie. over-reving, the compression is a bit higher. i have owned both, i went from a nicely built d16y8 (blew up in third gear) to a stock d15b (sold to my buddies girlfriend) and now have a b16. In a nice light EG the d15b pulled almost as hard as the b16. for the money d15b

Re: (EGStreetHtch)
my d15b setup isn't completely finished, still have a CEL for vtec... and hesitiation down low... but wow, it does pull well upwards of 4k rpm... this is with stock intake, dc header, stock exaust, p28 and ex/si tranny... i like it definitely, much better than the d15b7 i previously had.. its my first swap, done all by myself.. i love it

Re: (Infinity_Racer)
i would say the crx driver's weren't very skilled for sure, they dont pull that hard unless modded... btw: i had my car smogged with this motor and if you are lucky you might get an lsd tranny if bought complete, that is what they bring them over here for!!

Re: (EGStreetHtch)
jc @EGStreetHtch, where did u go to smog this swap at? Ref, or test only place? Did you have to use a wire harness adapter ? or what ecu are you running that with? I want to find as much 411 on this to have a smog legal Sohc swap. Any help appreciated
