d15 block with z6 head, less or more power with dx vs. so block?
i have a d16z6 with close to 200k miles. i also have a 95 civic dx block with 100k miles on it. i figured it would be best to use the block that is in the best condition. will i lose power by using the d15 block? also, what head gasket should i use? the d16y8 has that metal part in it i know, but what about the d16z6 gasket? ok thanks

Yes you will lose power. You're switching from 1.6L to 1.5L. Think about it. There's no replacement for displacement. And what's an so block?

why dont you just rebuild the block? why would you swap an old block for a shittier old block?

You have money for bolt-ons but not for a rebuild? Let's not polish a turd here. Rebuild the motor now, and save for the bolt-ons later.

i need an engine in my car so i can drive it instead of bumming rides everywhere. i dont have the time or money to rebuild itright now... can someone answer my question im not asking for opinions on what to do. im asking if i would lose a considerable amount of power by using the dx blcok with the si vtec head........

Re: (firstgenrex)
It's not an SI head its a vtec head. To get your car running yea it would be worth it because i believe the dx has 12 valves and the vtec head will have 16 but the vtec wont work with out the z6 PCM. You will lose power but how much? Knowone can really give you exact figures it's more of a trial and error. It might run just as good as the beat up d16z6 you had. Good luck and let us know of the results. You can even come up with a name for that type of setup. HAHA I would call it the frankanslow. some small humor. What is up with all the opinions on this forum too. It's really annoying when you just want info, and you have all these kids saying "i would do this and this and this" some people dont have a clue. Ohh about your compression my guess would be somewhere in the vicinity of 9.6:1. Smaller head gasket will get you a higher compression and a thicker will get you a lower compression. All motor is better with a high compression.

The d15b7 is a 16 valve engine

Tell you what, hopefully that d15 block is in good condition otherwise you'll be rite back to where you are now. Anyways, use the d15 block but use a thinner head gasket, the higher compression should make up the difference in power that you "may" loose by going with the 1.5ltr block. The torque numbers for those engines are so close, a small bump in compression should take care of that.
