Re: d series valve cover question (4door93civic)
are you talking about a d series (front) and b series (middle)?
i thought all d series had them in the front. maybe someone installed their engine in backwards

Thats about it, just an easy way of figuring out how old it is at a glance....also the older ones with the sparkplugs on the back say 16 valve, while the 96+ d series just say honda and the valve cover isnt painted black there just aluminum

I belive that honda just designed the motors a bit differently but their main intention was to put most non-vtec motor spark plugs in back and vtec spark plugs in front

Yep
1988-1996:
Plug wires in front: SOHC VTEC
Plug wires in back: SOHC NOTEC
1996-00:
Plug wires in front: EVERYTHING

Probably. Does it have a VTEC solenoid on the left side of the head? They did make an SOHC VTEC ZC.

Nope, thats the JDM D15B. 1 Intake valve is open till 2500 to save fuel, then its normal operation until 5000, then the 2nd intake cam profile opens for VTEC at 5000.

Bah, I suck at VTEC engines.
I thought the JDM D15B was like a 1.5 litre Z6, but we had one engine that had a 3-stage VTEC like you mentioned.
