D series parts interchange question.
I am under the impression that all d series parts will fit one another.
I have 2 92 civic hatchbacks. I have a d15 with vtec and the other a non vtec d16.
A friend started to swap the motors in the 2 cars as the d16 has a slung rod.
He says that the trans from one will not fit the other. Both are 5 speeds.
He says the dowls do not line up.
Is this the case?
Thanks in advance

Re: D series parts interchange question. (sohcvtec1995)
I called him and told him.
He said the clutches between the 2 were different sizes so he swap them. Now he thinks that maybe the pilot bushing were different keeping it from goin in/on.
What about the question concerning the exhaust and intake....Same?
Thanks

The '88 clutches are 21 spline and '89-'00 are 20 spline if I remember correctly. The intake manifolds on non-VTEC motors generally have smaller runners.

yes the intake manifolds them selves are different
but all d series intake manifolds and exhaust manifolds should be interchangeable
the ports should all be the same

as long as they're both 92+ (hydro tranny) then it'll fit fine..if it's a cable tranny he'll have to get a cable to hydro conversion kit or a hydro tranny, but all D series trannies are interchangable from what I Hear...never saw a problem with interchangable trannies inbetween D series...
