D series oil pumps
I am about to start an all motor D series build up and came across an issue. I currently have a D16Y7 and I'm going to do the mini me with a D16Z6 head and am going to include a cam with the usual valve train upgrades. I hear the the y series have issues with oiling. Mainly low pressure due to a weak oil pump that leads to spun bearings. Would it be possible to swap the Z6 oil pump onto my motor and avoid the spun bearing issue all together. ??

I can vouch for oiling issues...I have spun the #4 bearing on mine, but only after it was worn pretty well.
I don't see the need for shimming, the y7/y8 pumps still provide a good amount of pressure, but the oil passage mod is not a bad idea

yes some people shim the oil pump for more pressure. I have 2 honda performance books and they talk about shimming the oil pump, but most people just leave it alone, and some do it for extra precaution. There are a lot of civic race cars pushing high hp that don't have theirs shimmed. You should be fine leaving it the way it is but if it bothers you that much stick a shim in there.

That's nice and all, but who's the source? Also, those numbers don't really mean too much since they're at different RPM

Not really because the Y8 was done at 6800rpm and not 6000rpm like the Z6. At redline the flow rate may go down on the pump as the demand for oil gets higher. The Y8 might flow the same at 6000rpm as the Z6.

Good points Ryan - in the strictest interpretation of the data shown there is no way of knowing which flows more.
In making assumptions about the data though, why even list a number for flow rate unless it is the max? I don't see why this would be listed if it wasn't the max - it tells you nothing otherwise, as you pointed out.

also the weight of the oil is also a major factor with oil pressure. Thicker oil meaning oil with a higher viscosity such as 10w40, 15w40, and 20w50 will give you higher oil pressure.
