D-series IM: Skunk2 or keep the y8?
After hours of non-stop work..
realizing I put the y8 IM on wrong..
And then calling Panda EK up for help, Im thinking about doing it all again..
Before the y8 IM was put on my car I really wanted the skunk2, but couldn't wait considering I had no idea when the d-series version was coming out.
I'm really thinking about replacing the y8 and putting the skunk2 on.
I'm positive that this installation will go as planned after Panda EK schooled me.
So, basically im tring to figure out if the skunk2 IM is even better then the y8.
The s2 looks a lot beefier, but looks can be deciving.
I've read some threads on here about y8 im vs. s2 im but now that this product has been out for a little now I need some help figuring out if its worth it or if I should keep the y8 on. Anyone had a y8 and switched to the s2?
Lemme know..
Drew

Well, if you need it, I think you may have missed the first run. I think most places are now back ordered on the Skunk2.
The Edelbrock Y8 manifolds just came available this week, and they will probably go on back order soon as well. AEM is making a CAI for the Edelbrock manifold that fit a 96-00 civic for a clean install.

wrong actually. Alot of places still have in stock, I think for the reason is, people dont know if the IM will out preform the y8.

Well, the last I looked, it seemed the HT sellers of the Skunk manifold were out of stock. Maybe I was mistaken.
You can port a Y8 manifold, but if you are revving higher than the stock rev limit, the shorter runners will give you more power. The runner length has more influence on the rev power band than area.

But as for the stock IM y8 vs. s2 which would out perform the other?

keep the y8. The skunk2 mani isn't worth the money if you already have a y8. Just port it and you should be all set .

Re: D-series IM: Skunk2 or keep the y8? (SOHC_MShue)
what range do you want power? large plenums like the y8 are good for high rpm power and f/i applications. don't know about skunk2 but it looks smaller. small plenum long runners are for mid-range, large plenum and short runners for high. think about engine package, what header do you have, where do you want power?

I'd say the skunk2 would go well with a smaller turbo d16 application since the smaller turbos have sucky top end you could push the midrange more.
