D-Series Guru's Info Needed....
Will y7 pistons and rods work in a D15z1 block with a z6 head? What kind of compression do you think it will have? I got somewhere around 11.35??? The reason I ask is cause these are all things I have laying around and friend of mine needs a motor for ef sedan.... and I was wondering if this would work. Please any advice would help.

If you are using a D15Z1 block the stroke is 84.50mm. The stroke on the D16Y7 is 90mm. That means the rods are going to be a different length.

rods are the same length but the pistons are taller, and will result in having a negative piston-to-deck height(sticking out of the hole).

d15z1 has unique rods that are 137mm but fit on the smaller d15 journals. You'll need to use these rods.
You then have the following oem options
p08 (jdm d15b)
p07 (d15z1)
and any of the d17 pistons.
check out the 01-05 civic gx, PMS pistons, they are a good bump in compression. Right Lemon_juice?

Re: (BauleyCivic)
the only way you can use vx rods in a 1.5 block would be if the piston height was
~27mm. all 1.5 and 1.6 blocks use ~30mm pistons.
if you think about it...the rod in a vx and the 1.6 blocks are the same, 137, and the deck height between blocks is about 3mm, smaller for the 1.5 obviously.
the b7/b2 1.5s use rods of 134mm, the reason why they can run the 30mm pistons
~27mm. all 1.5 and 1.6 blocks use ~30mm pistons.

the d15z1 and jdm d15b have shorter pistons at like 27.75 compression height. Because these 137mm rod d15s have 3mm longer rods than the normal b7/b2/b8 d15's 134 rod, the piston is raised 3mm.
also the d17s have shorter pistons do to the longer stroke. these pistons are 27mm. the d17a7 is the CNG 01-05 civic GX engine at 12.5:1cr, but with the shorter stroke of the d15s these pistons are an excellent choice.
If one were to use the d16 pistons with the 137 rods the piston would stick out of the hole too much for comfort. The zc/d16a1 pistons are actually a wee bit shorter than the normal d16 pistons, IIRC they're 29mm. I read in some of Mista Bone's posts that he had spoken with Bisi and apparently bisi ran the zc pistons in a d15 with vx rods. the piston sicks out of the block, but that just means that it's a huge dome. impossible on the y8 heads with the squared combustion chambes though, but on the larger a6/b7 heads this comes out to like 13.72:1 with a y8 headgasket.
When I ordered my 0.25mm oversized d17a7 PMS gx pistons, i waited for 2 months. The guy at the dealer said smoething about how they were having to go all the way back to the factory in japan to be made because nobody had ever tried to order them or some ****. I gave up and decided to boost lol.
here's a good calc.

IIRC I believe you're boosting a mini-me The vitaras are only 0.25mm taller than the p08 d15b pistons. they're 28mm. My current project is a d15 block with the d15b crank and running TT rods with vitaras. Bone confirmed that they only stick out 0.018-0.020" above the deck. Not an issue on z6/b7 open chamber heads and considering the y8 hg is 0.0375 or some crap. this yields like a 9.0-9.5 compression

Re: (BoosteD14)
im sure the 1.4 block deck height is shorter, so it probably will cause clearence issues...i wouldnt know tho hahahaha sorry...im feeling but yea, gareuntedd its to short and da ting going stick out.
