Default D series cam question

My friend blew his motor on his 96 DX. Hes gonna sell me the AEM cam gear for about 40 bucks. I have a 94 EX d16z6. Will it fit on my motor? Is it worth it, and does anyone have any experience with what kind of power gains can be expected.
Thanks.

Virtually none with any other mods, but might be a nice pickup for future improvments to your car.

Don't bother. The only thing it'll do is help move your powerband around. Not worth it with just bolt-ons.

Buy it, hold on to it. Pick up a cam for $150 bucks and you'll be a smart shopper.

A new muffler!

I mean a camshaft. Oh, and plan on buying some dyno tuning time; that always helps. And depending on how aggressive the cam lobes are, you may need to pick up some stiffer valve springs and new retainers. Some aftermarket cams don't require it because they're very, eh, subtle, I guess you could say? So in that case, the OEM valve springs are fine.

If you use a 96-00 cam gear on a 92-95, then it will throw the timing off by about 4.5deg (IIRC). I don't think that I would bother.

When I had my stock D16z6 in my automatic del sol, it used to run 17.0-17.2. Then I got a generic hot air intake and it ran 18.0 Then I got a zex street/strip cam and an aem cam gear. Then it ran 17.2 again. It sux to spen about $500 to be back at stock. But then again it's just $40...

I have a stockish Z6 (I/H/E). And a cam gear.

I advance it for Autocrossing, and retard it for drag racing.

So in my application it makes perfect sense.

Power down low for Autocross, up high for drag.
