D-Series Bottom End ?s
So, i have mad extra parts laying around from friends swaps and such but i have a question or two about the bottom end. Just tryna to throw a little single slammer together.
I have a z6 block
Y8 pistons
Question is, is there a differance between z6 pistons and y8 pistons?
Basically just curious if it will raise the compression a bit or anything of that nature.
I have a fresh z6 head also to throw on that bottom end if it all fits together.
and wah-la! fresh and free single slammer for a future shell or something.
Any input will be greatly appreciated.

it will all fit. i believe the y8 was dif in the intake manifold and other outer parts. the y8 and z6 head was a tad dif but parts still fit each other. like a b16 and gsr head

the pistons will work but you will need y8 rings cuz they are diff from the z6 and it will lower your compression a tad but not enough to really notice it, but id spend the few extra bucks and buy dohc zc pistons cuz you can get them for not much more then just buying rings and you will have 12:1 compression and if tuned right it will tair *** and pull on all stock b16's and most gsr's. But its up to you...

Re: D-Series Bottom End ?s
just search for D series compression calculator on google. Or mill the heck out of the head and block. D series heads are cheap, I can't even sell a Z6 one for $50.
Just throw it all together and boost and spray it until it blows.

z6 pistons - Dome (cc) = -10.1; Comp Height (mm) - 30.00
y8 pistons - Done (cc) = -6.2; Comp Height (mm) - 29.3

Re: D-Series Bottom End ?s
if you have a d16a1 then deff take the pistons out of it and put them in you sohc build. those are the same as zc pistons and will give you 12:1 compression. and if you tune it right it will rape b16's and most gsr's... ive bult a tone of those motors and i know im gonna get hated on cuz im talking about building a d16 but theres alot of power hidden in them if you know what your doing... you can build a d16z6 with about $1000-1500 and be over 200whp and b16's go for like 1500 and there 160hp at the crank. Just using those pistons and a header cold air intake and a good tune you will end up with 150whp and about 120wtq so its up to you but thats what id do...
And for the sohc haters i do build dohc vtec motors and own a few right now. I just like sohc motors cuz no one likes them so you can get the parts cheap and when you do beat a doch vtec motor with them the look on there face is price less lol...

edit: just looked around a bit, and most places that sell rings for both engines have them listed as the same part number. why would you want to use rings that aren't made for the pistons if what you are saying is true? know what i mean?

or you can build it right ONCE and it wont blow.

Re: D-Series Bottom End ?s
what? 75mm piston rings are 75mm piston rings. explain to me the difference. i'd like to hear this explanation. and i don't want hearsay, i want facts please. i'm not calling you out or anything, but that for some reason doesn't make any sense...
